I do not know the answer to your question just adding to the conversation with some pointers. I would advise easing back on the "Snarkiness" of your replies or you will soon find that you are talking to yourself on the #1 Jag forum discussion in the world. More practical knowledge located here than in any book or CD etc.

If you have not committed to the 99XJR motor then Do not. Dozens of low miles 98XJR motors waiting to be deliverd to you that will plug and play. I paid $2,650 deliverdd 4 years ago for a motor with 66K on it. I just looked and saw many similar motors. These cars are not for the most going to the salvage yards out of collission but because they are just to expensive to fix for the average novice... BTW the pointer to replace all the accessories is huge. Do not re-use the engine mounts!

There's a changeover that people are getting confused about, the issue is AJ26 S/C(98/99/00) and the AJ27 S/C engines (01/02/03) the 27 S/C will not fit. Ask whoever you buy your engine from if it's an AJ26, if so you're good to go....

A side note, the N/A cars got the AJ27 a year earlier, this is probably where the confusion stems...

ok snyder i bought he engine and am very satisfied with it. i took the valve cover off and noticed that the timing chaing has been changed. so i am very lucky to have picked up the engine for a low price of $1400. but there are a few thing that are different from a 98 to a 99. i will just list so far what i have seen.

1. the crank sensor bolt on the valve has a different plug in on it. ( should i switch it with the 99 crank sensor or can i just splice the 99 plug to the sensor)
2. the sensor on the bottom of the transmission is also a different plug. (what i did with that one is just swap it out from the 99 motor)
3. there is only one sensor next to the oil filter on the 98 and there is two on the 99. (but when i was putting in the harness from the 99 i noticed that the second sensor doesn'e even have a plug on the harness) any idea
4. a sensor on the power steering is different but i will get to that tommorow to find if its swapable.

but i am so happy to know that you guy here are so helpful and have guided me this far. i cant waht to fire the engine up and take it for a drive.

but i have just a few questions
1 what power steering fluid do i use
2. coolant
3. transmission fluid
4. brake fluid
5. oil.

Rlover sorry for replying that way. but when i pulled my engine out the motor mounts were not even together anymore. the top and the bottom were split. so i am planning on buy new mount but what is the best chose URO,APA, or JAG. and i cannot find the part number for my manifold to cat bolts/studs. all mine snapped and i was able to remove the snapped studs with a torch at work. but were do i buy new ones.

Hi
I am not sure which brand of the Front Engine Mount is the best, but Rock Auto Parts only lists URO for these mounts. Rock Auto usually carries quality parts plus Rock gets high customer reviews (one exception is the shipping costs - multiple warehouse charges). I have not included Rock pricing because it is a lot higher on this part.

Amazon marketplace has the URO Engine Mount (part# MNC7500AB) for $53.70 each with free shipping.

Gaudin Jaguar Parts (Jaguar Dealership) priced at $207.50 for 2 plus shipping (total $233.44).

hey thank i order them yesterday and should have them in tommorow. now i was told that the 99 xjr does not have a transmission dipstick, but m,ine have a dipstick for the transmission but no rod to measure the level. i am going to have to add trans oil since some spilled out during the swap. my question is can i use wolfhead super universal ATF in the trans. i talked to a transmission shop and they recommended. and can i just pour it into the dipstick measuring thing.

Hi pyccku
Here is the weblink to the 2003 XJR Transmission Drain & Fill thread (look at post# 1 first, then more info in the other posts in that thread):

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ons-faq-54992/

post#1 has capacity and recommended fluid (Shell ATF 3403 - M115)

2003 XJR transmission is the same as your 1999 & 1998 XJR (Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic W5A580).

Hi pyccku
Did you find the part number for your manifold to cat bolts/studs?

I am not sure if the following is the exhaust stud part you need:

Name: 98-03XJExhaustStudphotopartnumber.jpg
Views: 1187
Size: 44.7 KB

Call your local Jaguar dealership parts dept - Part# JZC100036 Retail s/b $5 each - discounted $3.81 each.

jim i ordered them from ebay. and they ran me 2.99 a bolt. but thank you fo much. what i did was called jaguar in honolulo and they really helped me out. plus if you ever want to have a smile put on your face ask for mike in parts, i swear that he must have been baked when i talked to him and they always say aloha when you are done with the conversation. but i have extremely good news i put the engine is the car and after about 3 hours of crancking and it roared up. when ever i do a swap again i am going to always change the fuel before the crack the new engine.
