Please, provide some addition information about the problem... Do you hear any strange noises... when does it happen - while the engine is still cold or warm? Is the car on D or R gear or is it parked on P or N? Do you have any messages on the dashboard and have you tried to check the error codes through the OBDII?

As above some detail would help but the stall and restart is a symptom of a throttle body electrical issue. Remove the connectors, clean and reinstall and see what that does.

. . . and welcome to the forum!

Default XJ8 Stalls

After the orginal post yesterday I found out that it doesn't stall but in fact it goes to limp mode /failsafe with error code P0121 TPS fault. Today I cleaned all the connections to the throttle body I'll see if this helps. I was also getting messages trac not available and ABS so while I was at it cleaned all the ABS wheel sensors found that brake cleaner is faster than dish soap couple of good sprays than hit the sensor face with soft wire brush lightly and done. While I was cleaning the throttle body connections I did find one wire with a bit of insulation missing I did tape it up (light gray connector with 3 wires back left side of throttle body black wire) don't what sensor it is. If throttle body gives me any more trouble guess I'll try and find a rebuilt throttle body I know new ones are costly. I'm knew to Jaguar fourms but finding a lot of good info on this site.

With the trac and abs lights coming on like you mentioned have you tested your battery?

Same errors I was getting, cleaning the Throttle Position Sensor connector's pins fixed it. I used Radio SHack contact cleaner/lubricant on both sides of the connector pair - worked like a champ.

Default Check the knock sensors!

If you have random stalling be sure to check the two knock sensors on the top of the engine. I replaced one of mine which was covered in cracks and the car has not stalled once since! I had tried everything else; checked all the connections and the relays, everything seemed to be in order so I was very stumped, until I noticed the sensor was quite cracked from the years of heat.
