Hey guys I've been looking everywhere for the upper bushings on the shock mount specifically for CATS shocks. I know you can not buy the original bushing by themselves as jaguar doesn't sell them individually, only the whole mount. So can someone please tell me where I can get some good replacement bushings? I also don't mind paying for the full mount but most sites only have them for the non CATS xjr's. In exception with parts geek. They have them but it threw me off since there are some that say genuine but have different prices. Does anyone know whats the deal with that? Is there a difference between the lower priced genuine mounts & higher priced mounts? And I also want to purchase the lower bushing, the one that is in between the shock stem and under part of the shock mount. Would also like to purchase the shock dust sleeve.

The "dust sleeve" as you call it, is called a shock boot by Jaguar. I believe I bought my tower bushings from eBay, don't recall, its been a few years. For lower bushings, I know many members have used the poly bushings.

BUT in the meantime I rejected the poly-bushes since they produced a rattle when cold - even when having normal temperatures (~15-20 deg Celsius).

I replaced them with the bushes of the aftermarket Meyle parts No. 18-14 641 0001 (left), No. 18-14 641 0000 (right). Maybe you can get them (or URO or APA) in California too. These aftermarket parts are designed for non-CATS cars. BUT the only difference between the CATS and non-CATS mounts is the inner diameter of the sleeve, where the top part of the shock goes through the mount plate (see attachment). The CATS sleeves are wider and don't have the edge which you can see on pic. 11.

So I disassembled the Meyle parts and fitted their bushings into the Jaguar mounts. As you watch the attached pictures, you'll notice that the poly-bushes (black) are smaller and thinner, than the Meyle bushes (white). I think that's the main reason why some users report the development of a rattle over time when using the poly bushes as they don't fill the bush seats in the mounting plate properly. Furthermore I noticed that the poly bushes lost quite a lot of their stability as they were almost bone-hard when I fitted them, but were soft as butter when I replaced them a few X.000 miles later. I guess that's another point to add concerning the developed rattle.

Thanks so much for the reply guys. Now reading your post Alexander, I am leaning more towards buying the whole mount instead. From the pictures I provide, can anyone tell me what the difference is on the lower and higher priced genuine mounts?

I am not sure what exactly they are referring to with Adaptive Control, I'd get them to clarify that? When you have CATS (Computer Active Technology System), it firms up the corning. I would contact them, for I believe the difference is the through hole for the shock post for the retaining nut to sit on.

The real name for these electric shock absorbers is "Adaptive Damping." They have a solenoid operated control valve at the top of the tube. The front shocks are easy to R&R; the rear are a giant PITA. I replaced my front upper bushings three years ago. I was able to find a new, never used, left side assembly, but had to go with a rebuilt on the right. I believe that's what you're looking at in the pictures; rebuilt units. The pricing is based on whatever the supplier can get for them. I believe that the OEM parts have been discontinued, so don't throw away the mounting plates. I was able to get a set of bushings - I think from Terry's Jag - that I have for the next time the bushings need to be replaced. If you have a shop press, it's an easy DYI job.

I replaced the upper bushings (with CATS suspension) with ones from Welsh about a month ago. They work great. They were the same as non-CATS.

So I just received the mounts and noticed something seemed off. I went to check the ones installed on my xjr and they do not seem to have the huge gaps from where you insert the bolt to where it starts to kink. Can someone confirm that this is a mistake from parts geek? I think I'm going to go ahead and call and just end up getting the original ones. I don't want to be going to ordering and returning till I get the right ones this is so annoying

Hi, good morning,

I'm quite not sure if I get you right, but I would say that the geometry of the tower, elevation, dome (whatever it is called) doesn't matter, as long as the position of the shock mount hole is correct related to the mounting points of the whole mounting plate assembly.
The bodywork underneath is only a hole through the wheel arch and nothing else which could stop you from fitting the two parts.
And even if you experience a showstopper when fitting, it's no time consuming repair to re-fit the old ones and call partsgeek :-)

But I noticed something like that with the Meyle parts too as the metal of the mounting plate and the two washers at the top and bottom end of the bushings were made of a softer metal than the original parts. That was the reason why I ended up swapping just the bushings into the rock solid genuine Jaguar part.

I did the same thing. The bushings are the same for CATS and non-CATS but the inside sleeve is different. As long as you re-use the sleeve no issues

This is correct. It is the sleeve that is the important part.

I know this is an old thread, but the first photo in the original post shows exactly what I'm asking about. Replacing the shock mount bushings on my CATs equipped car and the front shock boots are just hanging down. Is that orange bushing inside the dust boot supposed to be pressed into the spot above? This is not causing any noise or issues, but would be nice to have it up where it supposed to be. Is the only solution to replace that bushing and boot? Cant seem to find part nubmers for them.

You mean that part # on the side of the yellow box where if you click the pic it enlarges so you can see it part #? ....j/k amigo, its all good, but it does enlarge.

Haha, good call but not asking about the mounts themselves, I already have them thankfully. I probably did not word my question well - I am asking about the very first photo from the original post that shows the members shock dust boot has fallen out of the mount assembly:




Is it supposed to be like that or should the boot be secured in the mount somehow? Just wondering if this is even showing a problem as mine is like this on both sides. I know my top mount bushings are nearly gone so the mounts are getting replaced anyway, was just curious if these boots are supposed to be secured in any way or if they just hang down when the car is jacked up?

Ahhh, the bellows...they're supposed to be seated up in the cup, but I haven't seen them stay. I cleaned mine up and even tried adhesive to no avail.

I highly doubt it’s an issue. I remember when I replaced the bellows and bushing, it bugged me that it wouldn’t stay seated on that flange. I left it as is and till this day the left or right have not given me issues. No leaks or anything. I wouldn’t recommend adding adhesive since if the day comes that you want to replace them, it would be a tad bit time consuming to get them off that flange.

Got it, thanks for confirming. I doubt its an issue as well just figured I'd check. When the car is on the ground they are mostly seated anyway.

Just in case anyone else sees this thread when searching, the Uro Parts upper mount plates & bushings for a standard suspension car will work just fine on a CATs equipped car. There is a slight shoulder on the inside of the bushing insert that prevent them from slipping over the CATs shock, just drill that out to 12mm and they will slide right on and fit perfectly. I ordered MNC2169AF (Left) & MNC2168AF (Right).

No more play in the upper mounts, but it made me realize that the lower shock mounts are gone, tons of play. Just ordered a set and will get them replaced.

What part does one need to drill out to 12mm? My XJR with CATS has been equipped with URO upper mount plates before I bought the car and the is a noteable "clunk noise" on the upper left side. I assume the upper mount. As visible in the picture, there is a shoulder in the sleeve which sits tight against the shoulder on the CATS damper. Meaning you can slide it over the thread but not over the shock tube itself. I thought this to be correct but does the sleeve have to slide down even furhter?
