I need new sway bushings on my 2001 xjr. I found then at the dealer and they are not that expensive only about $13 each. i just don't know if there are any upgrade bushings that may be better or will these be good. The originals seem to have lasted 130000 miles so i would think they would be ok but does anyone have any better ideas?
thank you

You can get poly bushings from superflex for the FSB and the arms. A little pricey at $300 but I'm told they really clean the front up a good bit. Will probably go that way in the spring. Bad thing about poly bushings is they are a good bit louder if not greased.

I recently replaced mine on my xk8 with the stock bushings from Jag. I do know that Matt H20Boy used the poly bushings on his xk8. This might help https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=33782 I did mine differently but we are also talking about xk8’s not xj http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto...erBushings.pdf Hope this helps!

I put the superflex on and they can be found on another thread in the XK8 forum. After driving with them for several months, i think the stock ones would be just fine.Originally Posted by benebob

I've been advised by the technical director of the J.E.C. that the standard anti-role bar bushes rubber a a fair deal harder than Poly, I mentioned to him I was thinking of changing all the front end bushes to poly, and he said use the Jag ones or you'll not get the correct handling. I took that advice, the guy know's these cars, and they're cheap!

Did he tell you the sky was pink too?LOL Rubber is not "harder" then poly. No idea where he came up with that one. He is right that it changes the handling. Incorrect would be open to your preference but it does slightly change handling. IMO usually for the better on cars but you do pay a penalty for the "crispness" it adds. I only would be doing it for longevity reasons. Originally Posted by Sean B

The 300 I said for Superflex is for all 6 front end bushes but you need to keep in mind the life span is about 3 times as long as rubber if properly cared for. With the cost of an alignment each time it makes long term economic sense to me.

You'll find it is on the anti role bar bushes. I'm referring to the XJR bushes. You get a stiffer compound of rubber, by a lot. I want my car like it left the factory. To be honest, I'd take his advice over yours all day, the cars where designed developed and built here, and he was part of that process, what's your imput, crispness? I guess you race yours.....Originally Posted by benebob

+1 on using OEM for your XJR. If they need replacing in another 3 years, so be it. You can do this yourself too, its fairly easy, all bolts can be reached from the top of the engine bay with a long extension.

Again rubber is not stiffer than poly just as pine is not stronger than oak. Did I tell anybody to go away from oem? I simply answered a question BUT will correct an incorrect statement as some people might have believed what you were told just as you did. The swaybar bushings imo aren't nearly as important to crispness as your arm bushings are. Those wear quite quickly. Mine are going and they were replaced 3 years ago this winter. These aren't nearly as easy to pop on and off.Originally Posted by Sean B
