XJR100 Production Number and Wheels
Hi, new to the forum and I've just secured my 2002 XJR100
Can anyone advise if it is possible to hone down from the VIN the actual production number of the 500 produced (Heritage say no) and I am looking for a complete set of 19 inch Montréal rims as spares (Mine are perfect, but come the day....I may need them.
Many thanks,

Hi
Hi
Just got myself a 100 last week
As far as I'm aware there is nothing in the VIN that tells you it's a 100. So I guess you can't tell which number your is. My VIN ends with F48872
An extra set of 19" Montreals will probably be quite expensive if you can find any, i belive they pop up on eBay occasionally.

Congratulations to both of you on your acquisition of a -100, and welcome to the club! I've had mine for over 10 years now and have decided that I will never get rid of it no matter how much money I have to spend ...
From what I've read over the years, there were 250 of these cars sent to the US and the other 250 were sent world-wide. So, for you guys in the UK and Sweden to find a set of the wheels will be much harder than it was for me. I currently have one in the spare tire well and two backups in the garage. I would recommend that if you find one, buy it !! The wheels are easily broken down and can be repainted if necessary.
As for the VIN, mine ends in F49639.
Have fun with your new ride !!

Jaguar don't produce any of the special 'edition' models in a single run so they don't have consecutive VIN's.

Curious about OEM spare tire: Did XJR-100 come with spare 19" rim in boot, or "mini-spare?" My 2003 XJR Manual shows "full-sized" spare, but I have a "mini-spare." Replaced with near-new XJ rim (and Pirelli), but curious if I should seek 18" OEM "mini-lite" style 7-spoke rim.
I was fortunate enough to work on one here in the states. I do have the option to buy a 100, but between my wife and I, we have 5 vehicles in the stable. I've done some engine work on it too. Smallest S/C pulley, very large harmonic balancer followed by ARP head studs along with MLS head gaskets about 3K miles later! Do you see the trend?
The 100's are very good lookin cars and wish I had the space for it. Enjoy your cars!

Dear all. I am new to the forum but not new to Jag. I have had few jaguars and daimler in the past, and I am excited to getting back into the brand.
I am buying an XJ100, 2002, with 160K KMs. The car seems to be very clear body and engine wise, but the leather is quite tired.
I would like to get your opinion on the Vin number. When I research the vin, it tells me that the car is an 1998 model, 4.2 littler. Would you like to get your help.
The vin of the car starts with SAJAA15J42MF45627.
Is this Vin number consistent with other XJ100.
Also, would you be concerned with the high mileage? Appreciate the advise and help. Ziad.

The hyper silver on mine isn't so hyper anymore and I've been considering (gasp!) removing the 4 piston Jaguar/Brembos and fitting standard brakes so I can use Asteroid or Penta XJR wheels.
My car is a daily driver, and after all these years I'm tired of messing with the wheels: The tedious concealed valve stems, easily damaged trim ring, reverse drop center mounting and lately rim leaks due to corroding bead seats.
A damaged trim ring isn't too bad to fix. About $200 for the ring, and careful disassembly of the spider from the rim. Need to be careful with the titanium bolts. The hyper silver is another matter. That seems to be very difficult to repair properly, but it does look nice.
YMMV. My advice is keep the wheels you have nice and deal with a damaged wheel when it comes up. Maybe get one or two as a spare.

Thank you for your replies.
BTW, I am buying the car in Dubai, and I checked on the Ford Site, and this is what I found.
Primary Features
Build Date: 24.09.2001
Vehicle Line: Jaguar XJ
Body Style: 4 Door Saloon
Version: Series 55
Engine: Jag-4.0L Dohc EFI SC V8 Gas
Transmission: 5 Speed Auto TR Mercedes MB 580
Drive: LHD RWD
Axle Ratio: 3.06 Final Drive Ratio
Emission: With Evaporative Emissions
Territory: Dubai
This looks like a genuine 2002.
Would it bother you that it has so much mileage. It drive and shift very well, and does not rattle. The only issue i have is the tired leather.
Thank you. Ziad.
