Default 1989 XJ6 battery drain

My 89 xj6 has a battery drain. There is a digital beeping coming from the steering column. I think it does that intermittently during the night. What is that sound for? Is that my drain. I've done an amp draw test and have. .02-.03 amps when everything is off. Please help.....

Hi Marc,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

My first guess is that the dust cover flap in the ignition key lock barrel is not closing properly when the key is removed, causing the "key in ignition" chime to sound continuously and running down your battery. You can usually free up the flap by applying a little penetrating oil to the key and repeatedly inserting it and turning it until the flap closes reliably.

Cheers,

Don

Could also be the 'NOT-IN-PARK' sound if the micro-switch is faulty or lever is out of adjustment.

. . . and not withstanding the "spot on" advice from Don & Bob, and with the caveat that your decimals are as intended, then 20-30mA quiescent does not seem outrageous . . . in fact, within factory specs, I think. You might like to review the link in my sig below.

Cheers,

Ken
