okay so this weekend i had time to do a few things..

got rid of the "pad" warning. so car on i get no vcm codes. but off i get a "fuel fail 22".

next i reflowed the passenger fuse box, no change. i plan to do the driverside next..(sidenote: driver side has the "gearbox" fuse, could of sworn it was the passanger side) anyways i tell you these things arent fun to dismantle.

....then i threw the kayak on the X300 roof rack and hit the lakes

Ok, well one more fuse box to go! Do that next then deal with the fuel fail code 22.

FF22 relates to the fuel pump circuit, so my money would be on the fuel pump relay or relay socket connection - a good spray with contact cleaner with a terminal scrape and a repetitive pulg/unplug routine would be the first thing to do, followed by a battery disconnect to clear the code. Swap around any similar relays too while you're at it.

Personally I'd do the spray thing on all the firewall relays and sockets then do a "hard reset".

Not everyone agrees with the remedial effects of a hard reset but I'm a believer and like the man says - "it can't hurt!"

Hard reset:
Remove neg battery terminal. Touch neg terminal cable to positive terminal (no need to undo pos cable) for about a minute.
Reconnect battery.

This procedure isn't dangerous and no sparking or anything like that will occur. Perfectly safe!

Theory is that the computers in the car revert back to factory default, dropping all learned settings.

cheers and good luck

Larry

Did the code clear temporarily, i.e. after you did the battery disconnect?

If the problem still exists the VCM will set the code again, but in my experience (I've never had FF22 btw) it usually takes a few miles of driving for the code to re-appear.

Not to fret though! - If the code is still there it just means cleaning and re plugging and resetting didn't address the problem.

Do you have the AJ6 engine management .pdf? It has a flowchart for dealing with the various codes and will give you all the options for dealing with FF22 ..if not, here it is, courtesy of Bob (motorcarman)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/sz...stic+Guide.pdf

On a separate issue, your gear lever ...On my parts car you could move it but that's because the plastic housing under the shifter plate was broken ...I think Jerry Hoback's car has the same problem as his is broken too.

Meanwhile, did you reflow the driver's side fuse box yet?

Keep on truckin'

Larry

Marco,

I highly recommend that you follow all the steps in the transmission diagnostic routine in the Jag-Lovers XJ40 eBook that I linked to in post 17 in this thread. If you get all the way to the end and everything checks out, it will be time to open up your TCM to check for cold solder joints.

And regarding your FF22, do follow Larry's tip about the diagnostic flow chart in the AJ6 Engine Management System Diagnostic Guide he provided the download link for. That's the routine the Jaguar engineers provided for the dealership mechanics, and trying to out-think the Jaguar engineers is likely to make the process longer than it needs to be.

Cheers,

Don
