1990 XJ6 mass air flow aftermarket pinout
i had to order a mass airflow off ebay ( Python Injection 825-744 ) and it comes in a 3 pin conector
the stock mass airflow is a 6 pin conector
i know one of the pins is a ground and there is a 2 wires are grounds for the sensor so that leaves the power/signal/ and idle trim
the problem is i dont know what the pin out is for the Python mass airflow so i dont know what goes where ... i tryed to use a ohm meter to probe the sensor but it was no help
anyone here ran into this as the company has gone under
thanks

Hi integra22t,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums. It's great to have you with us.
I just reviewed the schematic for the 1990 XJ40 and the stock MAF sensor has six pins. The Black wire of the harness connects to ground at the intake manifold stud at cylinder 2. The two Black wires with Yellow tracer lines tie together and connect to the ECM. The White/Brown, Green/Red and Green/Pink wires also connect to the ECM, for a total of four connections to the ECM plus a ground. Unless you know something you haven't told us, it doesn't appear that the Python MAF is suitable for use in an XJ40. You can download the 1990 Electrical Guide here:
http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Elec...Electrical.pdf
When you get a chance, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jag and give you a proper welcome.
Cheers,
Don

im taking it that the 3 pins on the new one are power/signal/ and idle trim
as for the 1 wire ground isnt a problem .. the other 2 sensor grounds i was hopeing just to add to the 1 wire ground
ive ran into this sensor a couple of times and it says it fits the xj6
im a Honda guy that builds and wires performance cars at Autofunctions Speed-Custom ... i got the sensor for a friend as we couldnt find a supplyer through our local jobbers
if i can find a car that uses this sensor i should beable to wire it up but dont want to take the chance it will pop his ecu
maybe what i should be asking is what car uses the Python Injection 825-744 mass airflow and try to work from there wire diagrams
p.s this is a great site for info ... sorry im just not a Jag owner .. just hopeing to solve a problem incase anyone else runs into it

Hi integra22t,
Since the XJ6 was manufactured from 1968 to 1997, saying a part "Fits the XJ6" is like saying it "Fits a Mustang." I don't remember that the EMS for the earlier Series III XJ6 cars used a MAF, but it might be worth asking your questions at that forum. You could also ask at the forum for the factory code X300 XJ6 (1995-1997), since those cars used a completely different EMS made by Lucas-Sagem-GEMS that might use a 3-wire MAFS.
Cheers,
Don

For the sake of a few bucks why not get a MAF that fits the car, like a 3AM or a later model like the 5AM (which works fine on the OEM 3AM supplied cars) - I don't know anyone who runs a 3-wire MAF on an XJ40 flavour of the XJ6!
The parts place that sold this for the XJ40 is out to lunch.
here's one for you, pretty good deal too ..
1992 1996 Jaguar XJ6 XJS Mass Air Flow Sensor Meter MAF Mafs 5AM DBC 12516 | eBay
This one will fit!

Even though the meter you have is listed as a DBC12516E, it doesn't look anything like one!
It is, however, it is a close match to a LHE1620AA, a 3 wire type fitted to some later cars (post XJ40 AJ6 engines) like the 1995 and 1996 X300's (the x300 is also an XJ6 but with different motor/ignition/ECU as Don mentioned earlier) XJ8's, and SOME late XJS's and apparently some other models. [I'd double check on that too btw!]
You *may* be able to mcgyver the car to run with this meter but you'd also have to modify the harness/plug assy? I guess you have your reasons to persevere (500 of them you say!) ...personally I'd just abandon going further down this road and get the right part, even if it's a used one - but if you do manage it, please let us know how the car runs afterwards, i.e gas mileage etc
good luck

thanks for all the help guys ... after i got a pin out from a 1996 X300 i was able to conferm that the new mass airflow dosent have the idle curcut ... so i figured i could fool it by taping into the tps for the idle curcut but it wants 1.2v at idle and increase to 5v
just incase anyone wants to play with something like this in the future here is the pin out
----> front of car
old sensor
36,6,7,8,9,12
black,brown,green,empty,white,green
ground,ground,ecu sensor swiched ground,empty,12v,signal
new sensor
1,2,3
black,green,brown
12v,signal,ecu swiched ground
im calling it a day ... i hate being the middle man on this .. now i have to try to get my money back
