1994 XJ12 Poor Idling
Hi,
I just bought this 1994 car and i love just seeing it parked.
My beautiful Jaguar is idling at 1250 RPM. Is this too high?
Is there anything that i can adjust?
Thanks,
Tino Sr.
P.S
I am missing the clock display and in the same line up of the switches( The interior lights switch, Power windows and locks) nothing is working. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

Hello, Tino,
You're right, 1250rpm is entirely too much idle even for a V12, or any engine! I have no experience with V12s (that's Grant's department) but I'm thinking no more than than 500 or so with the AC on is quite enough. None of my engines idle at more than 500pm with AC, and I prefer around 750rpm if nothing else is running.
Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the correct section where you can get proper advice for this problem.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Tino,
I've moved your question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST to XJ40 forum as you've already posted an Intro (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...k-lock-157416/). Members here with the same model will be able to help.
You will also find the majority of members with V12 knowledge in XJS forum:
XJS ( X27 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
This is the best place to ask questions about your engine.
Graham

I havent got v12 experience either, but I would certainly just have a look under the hood and see if there is something holding the cable at off-idle. Maybe a poorly routed hose? also maybe have a look for a vacuum leak. Start simple, it helps keep costs down. As far as that dash panel, I would take the same p.o.v., pull it out and have a look. Since you just got it, maybe someone else was in there changing the radio, or who knows and forgot to plug it back in. I have had to unplug that panel and remove it to get at other things. Theres a lot of stuff back there and it could have got missed. Good luck.
