Default '91 xj40......friggin fire hazard and ridiculous idea...

Xj owners -
XJ40 owners .....with gas tank on back seat parallel, right behind passengers . Also right above the gas tank , behind the passengers are this sound proofing and gas absorbent, **** it might be as asbestos, but fiberglass for sure . Any clarification and is he grateful . I'm installing a custom stereo and was cutting away metal and the crap in the picture friggin was a forever lit material. Even after spraying water an ember type burn remained . If I had stepped away for any reason and it could have been bad. Anyways any 91-92 owners even if you don't want a nicer stereo or whatever mod, you might want to know this material lies there and is behind metal.... And only accessible cutting metal away to my knowledge . But it might be good to know . Fat chance of being blown up maybe , but a bad enough accident and anything And anything can happen . Anyways I hope this was informative and I still am wondering if Anyone knows the exact substance used for this "insulation"?

\"insulation" or sound proofing in my hand after pulling it from the car....as it kept smoking ....whew!!!

In the position from the car and while slight embering.....

I think the best proof you have that it's not asbestos, is the fact that it caught fire.

Other thoughts/ramblings - I usually go to extremes to avoid cutting into metal out of a car. Some engineer probably put that there for a reason. Same thing with the insulation, really..

Not to mention the whole "sparks near combustible materials" thing. This sounds like a work area prep problem, more than anything.
