92 xj6 sovereign fuel pump
Looking for a new in-tank fuel pump for my car, problem is a brand new one is 1200 for my specific model. I was wondering if I could buy a cheaper used fuel pump for a different model and use it. I'm asking for anyones basic knowledge on fuel pumps for the xj6 and whether I have any other options then buying a brand new part that's $1200.
Here are some photos of the fuel pump that was pulled out of my car.

Can the Mods please move another one to the correct pages, XJ40.
That looks like the complete fuel pump module, and yes the $$ thay want are crazy. Inside that thing is a standard submersable pump, I RECKON, never been there to know for sure on a Jag, yet.
My 740iL killed its pump, $1800 for the module, yeh right. Ripped it out of the tank (simple task), smacked the pump out of the guts of the module, went to the local parts guys and asked for "one of these". Usual questions, but at the end of the day, EFI, 4ltr, LPH, Pressure rated etc for similar sized engine will do, sort it out.
Ended up with Mitsubishi 3.5ltr unit, cost $93. A bit of fiddling to attach to the BMW module thingy, but it worked, and still does, so care factor is pretty low.

What hiccup? Cept that is the fuel pump. I know this because I just looked in a spare fuel tank. LOL
I can't remember the exact thread title but about 15 months ago JagTechOhio included some after market parts numbers for replacing this fuel pump. Together with a name for the replacement part.
Search for XJ40 fuel pumps and see if you can spot JTO's post.
First question, why do you think you need to change the pump?
There have been many posts about the 'Link Lead' going bad, together with DIY solutions.

Didnt mean to post in the wrong section, wasnt aware i had an xj40 but i believe i need a new fuel pump because after having problems getting the car to start we had it towed to an auto shop and they figured out the fuel pump needed to be replaced and a brand new one for my specific model was going to be a lot. Which is why im searching for a work around of some sort.

I had the same problem with the '93 VDP. Inside the plastic unit is the PUMP. Remove and test, any 12 volt source will do. If not working buy a replacement at a fraction of the cost of the whole thing. With mine the wiring of the (plastic) unit was fried, so had to buy the expensive part......Roger.

Worked for 5 minutes...
Hello,
I just replaced the fuel pump in my wifes 1992 XJ6 (again). I started the car while it was still up in the air and it was running fine. Shut it down.
I had to re-seat one of the fuel lines to get it to stop leaking.
Started it again and it ran for a minute or two then stalled. I dove under the car and saw the fuel line connecters were all sealed up. :-)
Tried to start it a again, no go...
It blew the fuel pump fuse.
Has anyone heard of OEM fuel pumps shorting out in 5 min or less?
When I disconnect the fuel pump and turn the ignition on the fuse does not blow.
Help!

airtex, crapola for sure .
have used them beforee and loud, and lots of folks have had issues after install. go w/piersburg, bosch ,carter w/piersburg oem mostly on 92's xj40 as mine .
removing the pump from plastic ,very easy .
put small pick ,screwdriver in small openings around top of container and as you push in pry upward simultaneously and off she comes to find a large amount6 of sediment in the bottom and tank ,blow all out and make sure to get all wires checked out prior tom putting the tank back in so check flow ,noise etc prior to mre-install w/12 vo0lt source.
should only heara very slight buzz not a loud knock
if loud knock check to be sure last r&r included the rubber gasket[large that lays on the lg. opening for the unit.
good luck ,its a real breeze to save big bucks like dealers here get a fortune or $9-$1000 and pump is approx. $100
