Default Audi ABS sensor functions as a replacement for rear wheel speed sensor

The Audi ABS sensor does indeed work as a replacement for the rear wheel ABS sensor on my 1994 XJ6
I had to make a small bracket to hold it in the correct orientation and at the correct distance out of the hub but now I have a working speedometer in the car for the first time in probably three or four years.

Most excellent! Can you pass along the Audi part number and maybe a pic with measurements of your bracket?

I don't know the Audi part number. I bought this sensor on closeout from Rockauto.com a couple years ago.
The brand name was BWD/NIEHOFF and the part number is ABS526 according to the receipt I still have in my email records.
BTW, the end of the attached wiring harness on the sensor does not match the plug on the OEM Jaguar harness so I had to cut the Jag harness connector off and substitute a different plug that would match up with the harness plug on the end of the Audi sensor.

2D view of plate.
Large hole is diameter of ABS sensor barrel.
Small holes are for 6mm bolts.

BTW, in case others don't realize this the original Jaguar ABS wheel sensor is no longer available from Jaguar.
I have seen some aftermarket listings but they are at crazy prices like this:

https://www.autopartskart.com/jaguar...ed-sensor.html - $463.30

or

https://www.jagbits.com/product/DBC1557.html - $486.56

or

https://www.jagbits.com/product/DBC6247-USED.html - $200 for a USED part

And if your rear wheel sensors fail to function the speedometer and cruise control won't work.

Steve,

Congratulations on making it work, and thank you for sharing the good news with the rest of us!

I assume the thickness of the bracket is important to establish the correct gap between the sensor tip and the reluctor wheel? Can you tell us the thickness of your bracket?

Cheers,

Don
