The blue Jag is departed. Long live the green Jag!
I bought the 1994 VDP about which I asked some questions to the forum a couple of weeks ago; and so far, so good. I've gone through many of the same emotions as when I bought my '91 over three years ago. 'Holy crap. What have I done? Where am I going to get this repaired? How much is this going to cost? Etc..." I maybe even dreamed a dream of my children begging for quarters with a tin can out on the streets. But then, I calmed down, and began to drive! I don't really know how all those questions will get answered; but at the end of the day, it's only a car, and I didn't pay much money for it to begin with.
So, here she is. The good news is that this car drives really well. Everything works. The interior is pristine, and the car looks great. The VDP trim is really posher than was my '91 base model - although I loved the trim on that car very much also. I also appreciate the updates that came after a few more years of production: remote entry, duel airbags, and NORMAL seat belts - not that death-trap-waiting-to-break-but-on-'lifetime'-recall-from-Jaguar-but-good-luck-finding-parts passive restraint system.
The bad news is that this car is no where as clean or unblemished as was my '91. It's had some rust-work done, as it seemed to have lived most of its life as a year-round car in Chicagoland. Still, the patches look good; and clearly, whoever had this car knew it was good enough to get it fixed up and keep in service. The engine compartment has got some grease and gunk in the typical places. My prayer is that that never needs to turn into a head-gasket job; but I'll keep my eye on it. Also, the differential is sloppy with oil. It performs very well, and makes no noise; so it is probably something I will just live with and have my mechanic check every so often. Finally, I suspect it is not holding fuel pressure, especially when warm, possibly causing some vapor lock. The key cycle trick has always worked when it hasn't started on the first try. A supplementary check valve may be in my future very soon.
I look forward to re-entering Forum life, contributing what I can even thought it isn't much. Good to be back! Here are some pics...
