A/c not working

A/c not working
Hi all
My air conditioner's nor working, and the AC technician says the refrigerant is OK, and the problem is electrical because the compressor is not coming on. Does anyone have any ideas about this, and what specifically I can check to get the compressor working?
Thanks.

I would first check the fuses for the A/C system and then move on to the relays, there should be a air con clutch relay near the drier. I'm assuming that the refrigerant is not low from what your A/C Tech has told you. I have never tried jumping the compressor on a Jaguar, but on other auto's, I have ran a 12 volt hot wire to the compressor clutch to double check that it is working, eliminating that possibility (on a temporary basis only).

Oops! I notice it's working off and on.
Because Jaguar spares are unavailable here either new or used, I am trying to locate a substitute, but I understand that it is necessary to have the voltage and amperage ratings - the voltage is marked on the cover, but I cannot find the amperage marked, and can't find it on the internet either, or the Service Manual.
Does anyone know the spec of this relay...DAC7686 or LHF6703AA?
Thanks.

You might try a horn relay.
If the amperage capacity of the relay is too low, the most likely result is that the contact leaves burn out. Of course, there is a slight risk that it gets so hot that it starts a fire. But, you could always fit one, turn on the air conditioner and check after a few minutes of operation.
You could also get one of known capacity and fuse it inline with that capacity to choke it down.

You may want to have your A/C Tech hook up A/C Guages to the system to make sure the freon is not low, That can cause the compressor to cycle on and off. Has your car been converted to R-134A refrigerant? Guage readings should be at or near for a 1988 - 1992 XJ40(6) 30 on low side, and 205 on high side, for a 1993-94, XJ40(6) 70 low side and 145-180 on high side. It still may be in electrical system, but without the compressor operating when your A/C Tech first checked it, there is really no way of knowing if there is adquate freon in system. IMHO
