CD Changer - No Power
Ok so I'm probably bugging everyone, but I'm waiting on my manuals and the Santa Ana winds did a number on my antenna today, meaning no radio. I got some tapes but really the last one I made when I was 14 years ago...
I have no power to my CD changer. I fixed my fuse issue from my previous post, but no power is going to the machine at all.... It's all stock... I hit eject even with the car on and nothing happens, switching to CD on the stereo brings a code E-01.
Help!
... and yes that's one of the CDs I want to hear haha

This is just because I happen to have the users manual and not because I know all the fault codes, because I don't.
E-01 = Disc change malfunction. Solution = Consult your Jaguar Dealer.
I really like useful User Manuals, you'll see when yours arrives.
Don't know how good your eyesight is but there is another code E-07.
Magazine Ejection impossible. Guess what, Solution, Press the magazine eject button. If nothing happens Consult your Jaguar Dealer.
This manual makes great throne room reading.
"Dangerous", but I am assuming that your player is in the trunk/boot.
Whilst you are in the boot sniffing around with the panels off. Check the for an inline fuse from the CD player (I've got one in mine), the line should be "hot" with ignition on. Also check that the Earth/Ground lead has not come loose.

Slts,
i'll be checking for a fuse then, because there is no movement when I hit eject whatsoever... I guess that would produce an E-01.
Then if that doesn't work, it's off to the stereo store and it becomes a non-function display piece in my trunk.

So I had the boot all apart Sunday but no sign of an inline fuse, I have another changer in my old Passat that may be compatible, I want to see if it's a wiring issue or the device itself. I'll see if that works maybe. I don't know what to do really but if I come across a cassette adapter it's winding up in my car until I figure something else out.
Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for all your help!
I had what sounds like the same problem E01 wont eject cartridge
all seems dead.one forum reckoned it was microswitches inside the changer i removed the unit from the car removed the cover and manualy
but carefully turned the white cogs inside the unit(one set put the cd
back into the cartridge the other set ejected the cartridge)so i at least
had my cds back lol removed the cartridge then replaced the changer in the car then disconected and reconected the battery (make sure you have your radio code) switch on and see what happens mine worked
and has been fine since i did have to move the cogs back to where they
started.i then put the cover back on.
Mine worked and figured i had nothing to lose by trying this

I have the same problem but when I push the CD button it stays on radio or tape which works fine with no error codes and the CD magazine won't eject. I will watch for your solutions. Paul

I had the same symptoms on my 1992 XJS, E-01 code on the head unit and an unresponsive CD changer (it's a Jaguar branded Alpine 6 cd player).
I checked the power to the changer which comes via the DIN plug, it has a permanent live and a ignition feed, both of these were fine.
I released the cartridge using a plastic ruler and could see a CD still in the play position.
I took the changer out and removed the case, this is simple, first take the top off, then you can release the front panel and then you can remove the base, however I am not sure I needed to remove that.
I then turned one of the plastic gears on the front side of the unti, which raised the CD. Keep winding until the CD is level with the slot where the CD goes back into the cartridge, you will see that the clamp that holds the CD in place on the drive springs up to release it.
Once you have done this you can manoeuvre the CD out.
I then reconnected the power and the E-01 code had gone and the cartridge would load and eject.
It took a little time to sort out but it is was easy to do.
I hope this helps someone !
