Arrow Differential seal and others

Hey guys, so continuing in my quest to make my 1992 XJ Sovereign perfect. The next thing I see is the rear differential seal and another seal that I am uncertain what it is. Does anyone have an idea of the parts I will need and where I can buy them so I can knock it out one weekend?

Rear Differential Seal:

No idea what this one is:

The second pic is of the rear engine/tranny mount. If it's oily then my guess would be that the oil has originated from another area, possibly rear of cam cover and migrated down to the mount. Could be transmission fluid too from the transmission pan gasket.

Thanks for that! I will check to see if the cam covers or transmission has any leaks. Any info on the driveshaft\differential seal?

Unfortunately, no. Haven't had to deal with that.

On that front seal, you would need to undo the driveshaft. I believe it will slide far enough forward to get out of the way once you unbolt it. You can undo the parking brake cable, but i would use it later to hold the wheels when pulling the Big Nut. Then remove the "Jurid" joint- that rubber piece, by undoing the other 3 bolts on it. You should mark its position to reinstall it in the same way to avoid creating vibrations. You can then remove the pinion yoke Simply By removing the large locknut holding it on. A 36mm deepwell socket will fit it. You may need a puller to remove the yoke, and from there it looks like you can replace the seal. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me since I invariably forget something.
Gook luck!

Check the parts catalog for the part numbers and then google the part numbers.

Hi ETA,

The Haynes manual shows how to replace the transmission mount/rear engine mount, but there is an error in the order the parts are assembled, so pay very close attention when you disassemble yours. Your transmission output shaft oil seal may be leaking but I think it can be replaced with the transmission in the car. You can download a mostly-complete U.K. edition of Haynes here:

Haynes Jaguar XJ40 Repair Manual

As Marc and Jerry indicate, it is possible to replace the differential pinion shaft oil seal without removing the differential, but it is critical that the large nut be returned to its exact original position to retain the preload on the pinion bearings. However, often, a leaking pinion seal indicates worn pinion bearings. Replacing those bearings requires removal of the independent rear suspension and differential. I have photos of this process at the link in my signature. It is more than a weekend job.

Cheers,

Don

Perhaps something I will have to pay a professional to do then in that case. I appreciate the heads up Don!
