Some years ago I bought a set of thread checkers to help sort through my piles of salvaged fasteners, and I discovered that some of the smaller metric and SAE threads have very similar dimensions.
Don't hold me to this, but I think I recall that M4X0.7 thread is compatible with 8-36, and M5X0.8 is compatible with 10-32. So it's possible that all the XJ40s have the same thread on their adjustment rods, but either a metric M4X0.7 or SAE 8-36 nut will work.
