Red face DUH!

So yesterday afternoon I noticed the bulb fail indicator lit and proceeded to check out the car - the nearside orange side marker was out. No problem - I'd just pick up a bulb and fit a new one ..

So this morning I went down to the parking spot and pressed the remote - no sound and the doors stayed locked ...I realized that after I did the bulb check yesterday I must have left the headlights on, so they were on from 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon until 10 am this morning. Not a glimmer left in the battery

So armed with my only charger (a small 1 amp unit I use for bench-testing circuits), she's on charge ..guess I won't be going anywhere today!

Getting old ain't fun!!!

Larry

Oh man, I wish I could say I'd never done anything similar. I especially wish I could say I'd never done anything similar more than once!

Thanks for a hearty (but empathetic) laugh!

Hah,bin there,done that!

Locked the door of my truck once, with the engine running! At the mall!

I had to scrounge an old pail, and use the wire handle as a jimmy to unlock the door.

Cheers,Jim

Talking

Hi guys, the ol girl doesn't seem any worse for wear, all charged up again and purring along - one quirk though ,,,

The radio displayed 99.3FM when it came back on and I couldn't select the CD or change stations plus there was no sound. I pressed the presets 1-6 over and over and nothing happened. Logically I thought I'd have to re-enter the code but --code-- didn't display....so ....

Disconnect the neg terminal of the battery; that usually gets the radio to reset and ask for the code I thought ...

Well the 99.3FM display disappeared but instead of --CODE-- I got --WAIT-- so I waited and nothing happened

Came back home and googled "Jaguar radio code wait" and was taken to the S-type forum where all was made clear ...

If you enter the wrong code 3 times, the system goes into WAIT mode for 30 mins and then re-displays --CODE-- then you put in the code and all goes back to normal ...I guess when I was trying to change stations to get the 99.3FM display to change I was actually entering codes, albeit the wrong ones

Anyway all fixed now and mental note to check lights are off before leaving car firmly etched into my skull ...(til next time I guess)

Larry,

We learn something new every day! I'd never, ever heard about the radio --WAIT-- issue!

Thanks for your humility in sharing this account - it will no doubt help others in the future (probably me).

Cheers,

Don

I did the same thing after I first bought my XJ. I had been driving a Volvo and you never have to turn the lights off as they go off with the ignition. I tried the same thing out of habit with my jag and had a dead battery the next morning.
