First Jag, and first car
Hey everybody,
Brought a 1994 Jag xj6 vanden plas on Saturday and just stumbled on this forum. Any advice or things to look out for would be great.
I hate to jump right into a bunch of questions, but if anyone knows what might cause a rough idle or the type of code reader (if any) you might use on a 1994 I would be much appreciated. (Oh, and to any Portland, OR jag people any good repair shops?)
Thanks and glad to be here!

Welcome to the forums!
A Jag XJ6 is definitely an amazing first car, but be prepared to spend money on repairs and general maintenance...
If you have a lot of questions, you might as well fire away. Some of us might only be able be somewhat knowledgable about some things while other things not so much.. (..like myself).
A rough idle could be caused by something as simple as bad plugs, wires, air filter, vacuum leak or it could be distributor, fouled injectors, a sensor issue, etc.
I'm taking a bit of a guess but that's what I would look at first. Go look at all the easy things and then go for the more difficult stuff. The easy stuff you probably want to have a go at by yourself (or with a knowledgable buddy) because it'll be cheaper than taking it to a shop to diagnose, especially if it ends up being an easy fix.

Well I thought I might get it checked out regardless just to make sure everything is alright, since the people I got it from thought they knew what they were doing and from what I've found so far I'm amazed it runs.
Someone mentioned the VCM Button, where is that located exactly?
And does anyone know what if any code reader a 1994 jag would use?
Thanks!
