fuel filler lid will not open.

Default fuel filler lid will not open.

my fuel filler lid will not open, when i press down on it it doesn't open, i have to use the emergency release, any idea on whats wrong? i checked the in line fuse in the trunk and its good.

Open your trunk and push down the carpet to the left hand side around the hinge , you should see a white colored tiny switch ,press it down and it should released the lid .
It happened to me a few times on my '88 XJ40 too .

ya that's what ive been using since i got it, but i thought you could press down on the edge of the filler door and it pops up?

i have the "drivers handbook" with the car and it says that the central locking system can lock the lid and the only way to open it is with the white release button so something might be wrong with my central locking system i guess.

Yep, normally it should pop up as you wrote above . I believe there is a pin that secures the lid and it might be stuck
