Default Got her all fixed up

Took my xj40 to the dealer. They got rid of the three tiny rust spots I had. They also replaced the black strip that covers the lights over the rear license plate, and put the chrome plate back on over that. HAd my doors and hood properly aligned, air conditioning was fixed, and they covered up some marks near my license plate.

It looks amazing, Imperial Motors did a great job and it was way way less money than any auto shop. We paid under 700 for all that work, and the rust alone several auto shops estimated 1400.

I'll put some pics up soon.

It was funny cuz we had been taking my dad's 00 xk8 there and they never really said anything. But my car they complimented the car a ton saying how it was in great shape and looked beautiful.

Aparently there is some sort of self adjusting suspension in xj40s, and aparently mine still works which is unusual. Idk what they were taking about. Maybe someone can fill me in

EDIT- Also they "stabalized" my headlights

As I understand it they were somewhat problematic whuch is likely an understatement as Jaguar redesigned their suspension by the time my XJ was built and eliminated the self adjusting suspension in favor of leaf springs and shocks.

Self levelling suspension adjusts height of the car to the load . Also, it is more comfortable when travelling and sitting in the rear . Earlier ones are hydraulic that can cause some problems .
The funny thing is that may be we cancall it irony , if your hydraulic system is shot , you will bounce like a ball in the backseats . Heck, I again pronounced "bouncy" terms but that's just true lol .

I've never sat in the rear so I never noticed the comfort. People are always comlpimenting the comfort, but I assumed they were just being nice, I guess it actually is very comfortable.

The self leveling shocks run off a hydralic pump mounted on the front of the engine. It's the pump without a belt going to it. It runs off the jack shaft in the engine. The pump pressurizes the shocks which levels the rear of the car to the "proper" height. As you add a load, say you put four sets of golf clubs or your mother-in-law in the trunk, the shocks would level the car rather than allowing it to sag under the weight.

They were very problematic. I would venture to say upwards of 95% of the them have been changed out to conventional shocks. In fact, Jaguar even designed a replacement get, but much cheaper aftermarket.
