Hello everyone I'm new to this form my name is Jon I bought a 1989 Jaguar xj6 but when I run the VIN it comes back 1989 Jaguar Land Rover limited Jaguar XJ 6. Now however under model it says three different models ones xj6 ones xj40 and the 300 you cannot get any more information about this vehicle except you know the Carfax it only has 73,000 miles on it I called Jaguar of North America they looked it up and then sent me to archives does anyone know anything about how this works did Land Rover actually build a car in 89 trying to buy Jaguar if so I'm thinking this may be it still waiting on archives to call me to tell me more.
Sorry but you're in totally the wrong sub-forum, indeed the wrong section; I think you need the XJ6 Series I, II and III subforum which is in the Classic Models section.

"Jaguar Land Rover" is the present day name of the company which builds Jaguars (and Land Rovers). It is owned by Tata Motors. The database you're using is apparently attaching "Jaguar Land Rover" to older models as well

You have an "XJ40" type XJ6. XJ40 is the engineering designation. Following that model was the "X300" design, also marketed with the model name "XJ6"

No, Land Rover did not build any Jaguars nor did it buy Jaguar.
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums. It's great to have you with us! Norri moved your post to the correct XJ40 forum and I have retitled your post to help other members know the nature of your problem.
Without knowing what VIN Decoder you have tried to use, it is impossible to know why it may have returned a Land Rover result. If your vehicle is a Jaguar and its VIN begins with the letters SAJ, try entering the VIN at the decoder at this link:
I am also attaching two VIN decoder documents that may be relevant.
In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST, and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.
Please see the VIN decoding information I provided in the first thread you started in another incorrect forum See post #7 in this combined thread.
Please do not start any additional threads on this topic, since it creates confusion and duplicated effort on the part of others who want to help. The reason we have moved all three of your threads to the XJ40 forum is that this is the internal Jaguar factory project code for XJ6 cars manufactured from 1987 to 1994.
At least one of the three VIN decoding resources I posted should help you figure out what you have.
