Default HIT and RUN

I parked my cars on the street this morning to clean up my garage and driveway.
I had to go to the store to pick up some cleaning supplies and this is what I found when I got back. I have Classic Car Insurance to a stated value of $10.000.
They are coming by tomorrow to access the damage. I sent pics to the insurance company and the rep said that it looks like a write off. I don't think so!
Lets see what they say tomorrow.

headlamp was hanging so I removed it.

That's terrible. Both the side and front were hit? Maybe it was vandalism?

Neighbor said he heard the bang and saw a light truck speeding away. I did not notice before, but the windshield also has a crack.
Well! Well! Looks like it was hit high. No damage to the lower part of the car.

Major bummer, sorry to see it -hopefully it won't get written off, looks like about $4500 to fix?

Sad news indeed

Ouch! Sorry to hear this.

Provided the door piller isn't distorted, it shouldn't be a difficult repair.

Going to the JY later today. There is a white 1989 XJ40 there. I believe the body parts I need would be the same.
My plan will be to pull the fender and door if they are in good condition.
I can do the body work myself including paint. I will try to convince the insurance company to pay for the repairs. I'll see how that goes.
There is no damage to the door pillar. The door gap is still good and the door opens and closes just like it did before.
The fender to hood gap is also good. No major damage to bumper, just a scratch.
I may do more damage to the bumper when I try to remove it as you all know how brittle they become over the years.
Below are photos of my cars body worked and painted by me

That's devastating! I'm always apprehensive about parking on the street for more than a few minutes to shuffle cars around.

You are lucky to have an XJ40 in your local junkyard. They're like hen's teeth here!

Do any of your neighbors have cameras? They may be able to get some video evidence for you. We have a couple cameras ourselves, and while we haven't had to use it for legal reasons, are ready to assist any of our neighbors who need it.

Damn, sorry to hear about this. It's bad enough to get hit but then the sob couldn't even stop and accept responsibility Good luck with the insurance company and the repairs.

XJ40 bumper should be ok, not brittle - (on mine anyway) ....I though the NA models used an aluminum beam, not like the UK ....steel?

On second thoughts maybe not all years/models are aluminum?

Good News. The insurance company will foot the bill for the repairs to the tune of $3800.00. The check will be in the mail within 2 weeks.??????
The better news: Just checked the inventory at my favorite Pull and Pay. They have a 1989 XJ40 from which I already got some of my interior trim and other parts.
On 07/24 they received a 1990 XJ40. That is 2 days ago. Heading to the "Candy" store tomorrow morning. My son will help me pull the parts I need.
I will be pulling what I need and much more from both cars.

Sanchez: It's great that the insurance company is keeping their end of the deal. Post pics as you progress through the repairs. Nice Series III by the way. I used to own an '86.

Went to my favorite Pull and Pay on Saturday and the 1989 was still there but the parts were not in very good condition.
I wanted to take the quad assembly out for a forum member but after examining it, the bezel was cracked and the headlamp frame was bent.
I would have made them worst because I would have had to pry the fender back to try to release the headlamps.
The 1991 XJ40 was also hit on the driver side so that was a no go.
On Monday I got a call from my son telling me that there was a 1990 XJ40 at a JY about 90 miles from my house.
I drove out there and saw the car. The only difference is that you could not pull the parts yourself.
The sales person told me I had to pay for the parts first before the pulled it and I would get it the next day.
parts installed on my car. Different moulding. Different silver
Moulding on my car not even bent. Can be salvaged and reused.

That would have meant another 180 mile round trip which I wanted to avoid.
Door Complete: $100.00
Fender: 60.00
Pay cash no tax.
For an extra $40, I was able to get him to pull the parts the same day.
Went to lunch and within 2 hours I got a call that the parts were ready.
