For those of you who have installed Gijz's board...what do the two leds mean...I assume power for one, but the other? charging indicator?
One is for power and the other flicker when loading data from cd drive to PDU. The charging ligt for the PDU is on the PDU itself (right hand side next to the grey connector)

Thank you Gijz....I didn't want to print out my enclosure until I was sure...glad I waited...
I have a working FDS 2000 with modules suitable for XJ40. Lots of documentation in both English and Swedish. Unfortunately, cannot be shipped. Pick up in Sweden. If you are interested, please send me a message.
So gents, I finally got around to finishing this PDU base station. It uses a meanwell RD-50A power supply and of course Gijzzy's board. It came out pretty good and keeps everything together in a nice package. You will have to remove the leds and move them to the panel, but that's easy. Here is a link to the Thingiverse model and some of what you'll need : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:70...oogle_vignette
That looks nice and compact, great job!!
It's old stuff, someone told me that a CF-card could be used instaed of the CD-Rom, perhaps that could be for the future
because the drives are getting older and hard to find.
Just an idea...

Fran,
The CF card would need to emulate an IDE CD-Rom. I'm sure that's been done by someone. However the adapter board is very picky about CD-Rom drives. Not every drive is compatible. Some brands/models won't work no matter what you try, although they work perfectly with a computer. Others work perfectly, first time, everytime. I don't know how a CF card adapter might work. I think the maker of these boards either now includes a working drive, or recommends a certain make and model. I went thru 3 drives before I found one that was compatible.

Indeed, not all IDE/Atapi drives will work, did you try the jumper from slave to master??
I did have a drive working when i set the jumper to master, it was a NEC ND-3530A cd/dvd r/rw.
What drive did work with your adapter board, info that everyone can use in search for a compatible drive.
I too had tested different drives before on my Macpro with an EDI to usb and they worked OK.
I have a later version of the PDU (Ford) it was from 1998 and had a Toshiba drive XM-3502B 1995, it has the text "atapi" and only used 5V and jumper on Slave.
I tried some drives that worked with my Macpro but sadly non did work, is the Toshiba something special??
I wrote a 2 part series in this thread about how to build a base station using one of Gjizzy's boards, starting at post #179. The CD-Rom I recommended was a Toshiba SD-616 I got off ebay. Recommend looking at that thread for the whole story.
Yes, i tried master, slave settings on all drives i tried. Nothing worked until the SD-616; it was plug and play. All of the other drives worked with a PC with a USB to IDE adapter. I also tried burning the CDs with various drives, including the ones I was trying with the adapter board. Nothing worked, nor did using other brands of blank CDs, as well as original CDs.

Hi Gijzzy. We are an Aston Martin dealer and our PDU CD-ROM is dead since 5 years and it would be great for us to get it back up and running.
I am a new user so cannot DM you directly. Please contact me so we can order one of your kits.
many thanks.

No problem!
Do you happen to want to sell a 3130-1242 cable to me?
If you can post an e-mail address on the forum I will keep an eye on the forum and I will contact you directly. Then you can remove it again to avoid spam.
I've forgotten to tell that if you have copied a CD for the FDS or Jaguar, the older drives could not read CD-R or CD-RW.
If you use a newer drive that is capable of reading CD-R or RW then with Gijssy' board it should work.
I have the latest FDS from 1998 and this Toshiba XM-3502B has no problem with CD-R, i did copy a CD32 and the drive
had no problem with it.
Just to let you know, it's not always the disc's CD-R or RW.
Hey Guys, what firmware version does everyone have in the PDU they're using? And can it be upgraded to the latest if there is a later version? I believe I have 2.1 running in mine.
Gents, I'm have a recurring connection issue reading my ecu. I've replaced both connector ends (from the PDU to the data port ODBI) I want to make sure I have these in correctly the two circled pins are the data lines. Can someone confirm this is correct.
For people who are having problems with the Sony CD drive, I have a solution for it!
I am building new circuit boards which are a direct replacement for the original board inside the Jaguar PDU (Ford FDS 2000) if the CDrom player fails. No need for any soldering just 2 screws and its is plug and play. The original players are non ATAPI drives as mentioned earlier and fitting a new modern player will not make the system working again. This circuit board makes it possible to fit any ATAPI drive, also giving much higher loading speeds as the original Sony only had 1 speed. So this board can be used as an upgrade as well.
If you are interested please sent me a PM.
Interested if still available, but unable to send pm for some reason. Any advice on how to proceed?
