Latest and greatest on repair manuals?
Hello, I did quite a bit of searching on this forum + checked out the "HOW TO" sticky at the top of the page, but I am getting dead links one after another. A lot of the downloadable files are no longer available either seems like.
What is the latest and greatest way to get my hands on a 1990 XJ40 repair manual? JTIS seems to be the way to go, but I am not seeing pdfs or CDs anywhere? Does anyone know where I can get this?
I came across this on eBay. Is there any reason why "Sovereign" wouldn't work for a Vanden Plas?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/37337603466...Bk9SR6qJpbiHZw
PS - Not looking for Hayne's/Chilton's repair manuals. Looks for something with more detail and closer to OE.

JTIS 20 is the last Jaguar manual we got that has no 'expiration date'.
When I got the JTIS 21 CD and I got to work after the NEW YEAR holiday it would not work.(January 2024?)
I called Jaguar Technical Hotline and was told it was TIMED-OUT.
We needed to use our login and password to access it ONLINE.(too much hassle logging in)
I just reloaded JTIS 20 and went on with my life at the dealer for a few years for the older cars.
JTIS 21 came out less than a year after JTIS 20 so not much difference.
JTIS 20 will be current for cars to 2004MY.
I could copy the JTIS 20 CD as an ISO file and put it on the internet?

Hi, those manuals are the ones from Jag, so they would be the most thorough. I have them and they have everything in them. For me the drawback is that they are written in "professional mechanic- ese." (sorry Motorcarman, no offense). I can figure a lot out, but some of it is just over my head (sorry Me, just being honest). On the other hand, the Haynes manual which I often refer to as the Haynes book of lies is useful to me as well because of their photos. I can look in the backgrounds and see other useful things than what the subject might be. The Sovereign and VanDen Plas names are simply trim levels, so mainly only the options would differ. Good luck-
Hellow vwishndaetr,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums. It's great to have you with us.
I have the full Jaguar XJ40 Workshop Manual and lots and lots of other pertinent Jaguar documents, and by far, the reference that was most helpful to me when I owned my XJ40s was the Haynes manual. The Jaguar manuals are much more difficult to navigate, and as Jerry mentioned, they assume knowledge that factory-trained Jaguar technicians would have, but most DIYers don't. I very rarely used the Jaguar manuals. You can download a mostly-complete U.K. edition of the Haynes at the link below:
Haynes Jaguar XJ40 XJ6 Repair Manual
It's true that there are a few minor errors in Haynes, but it is mostly very accurate and far easier to use than any of the Jaguar manuals.
If you'll let us know any specific operations you are interested in, we'll try to supply any additional information that may be helpful.
Cheers,
Don

I've been spoiled by Bentley Publishers repair manuals in the VW scene which almost became a gold standard for me as far as repair manuals are concerned.

Man, this forum comes through again.
Between receiving the UK Hayne's Manual from Mr. Don and a solid lead on JTIS from Mr. motorcarman. I'm well on the way to having everything I need (not to find a solution for that leaky tank).
I did also find a hard-copy of the Hayne's Manual on eBay for $15... Easy buy in my book. After about 15min of reading the digital copy on my phone it felt like my eye ***** were starting to fuse together... The tiny screen is not conducive to such a book.
