Default Mystery Radio Cable

Hi, I am hopeful that someone can identify this mystery cable that plugs into the back of the oem radio. I am installing an aftermarket unit. Will I harm any electronics in the car if I just tape it up and leave it unplugged?

The OEM CD changer will no longer function without the OEM radio.

Motorcarman: I should have been more clear. My head unit is a cassette with no cd capability unless there was a trunk mounted unit if such a option existed back in '91. I didn't see any evidence of that when I stripped the cabin or the trunk. I am probably being overly concerned.

There has ALWAYS been an ALPINE CD changer option for the Series III XJ sedan/XJ-S in the later years ONWARD. It is mounted in the BOOT and there WILL be a cable present for connection taped to an existing harness.

Mr. Motorcarman: You know your stuff. I stand corrected. Stupid me did not see the obvious switch on the front of the head unit that has the selection options of: am/fm, cassette AND CD. There you go, if I'd paid attention, I'd have noticed. Thanks for being diplomatic and not calling me out for the blind person I must be. And I am sure when I look more closely in the boot that I will find the cd cable.

On another note, I would like to have an aftermarket Viper remote start/alarm/door lock-unlock system installed. I have been using a local and reputable stereo shop to do the install for many years. Is this a totally crazy idea for this car?

I guess the local stereo/alarm shop will know better than I.

I don't really modify cars, I just repair them.

Good luck!!
