Default Need Brake Schematic

Hello everyone. I posted a couple months ago that I found a nice 89 XJ6 with 77k on it but it needed brake help. After months of not knowing what the heck the mess of brake and suspension fluid lines were everywhere, I decided to drop the car off to a buddy of mine who has worked on Jags before.

Upon inspection, we found one of the brake lines (?) just hanging and it looks like a bleader was installed in its place. Again, I don't know anything about these cars so I am a bit lost. On the passenger side you have what appears to be the ABS block (square Bosch unit nearest to the firewall on passenger side wheel well). In front of that is some kind of pump or junction block. This is where the one line is just disconneted.

Does anyone have the brakes section of a manual they can send me or is there some place I can get a manual to download? I think it would be best to have some clue on what goes where and what line is for what purpose.

Thank you for any assistance.

Are the rear shocks self leveling? All most all of them have been converted to standard rear shocks. Part of this procedure is to disconnect the line from the block to the rear shocks. To prevent leaks, the tech will take the bleeder from the shocks he removes and uses it to close the line that was remove at the block. Doesn't sound abnormal. Good news is, that's no problem. Bad news, you still haven't found your fix.

You need Publication S73 but it is 4.2 MB .pdf and it will not upload to this forum. I tried several times but it seems it is too large a file.

That is a good question. I do not know. I can tell you the suspension sits perfect right now. I will let my buddy know who has the car and have him check. Good tip. Thank you.

Bob, I didn't get the email. Can you send it again? Your help is much apprecated so I can get this back on the road again. Thank you.

The rear shocks are apparently converted over and the brake like that was plugged is the rear feed line. Thats good news. The bad news is I still have poor braking. I am stopping at the shop today to see what my buddy had found. I also got new hood struts so it will stay up on its own. What a PITA that was.

Thanks for everyone's help. I found the system was 3 quarts low on Mineral Oil and now the brakes stop as they should. So far we haven't found any leaks so the cause of the lack of fluid is perplexing. I still have an ABS Failure message on but I believe one of the wires was cut and have to relocate it to repair.

I found a running issue but that is in a separate post. Thanks again.

The green tube slides up to cover the red low level indicator. The green tube is on a float. The cap was not meant to be removed. You fill the reservoir with the special plastic adapter on the 500ml bottle of mineral oil.
