OBD-1 Reader for '92 VDP
OK Folks, my issue is (as usual) the "check engine" light on my '92 VDP. There is nothing showing up on the dash computer when I go through that sequence and I had to replace the battery a couple of weeks ago so the computer's volitile memory should have reset. I have been totally unable to locate an OBD-1 reader that will communicate with the Jag (Chevy, BMW, or Honda, sure, but nothing for the Jag). Does anyone know where I can buy a reader that I can use to reset the CE light? Thanks!

You turn the ignition key to ON and remove the INSTPK fuse in the center console fusebox. Watch the speedo and tach needles till they fall on the lower stops. Reinstall fuse and check for more FF codes (they are displayed in order of priority).
The only reliable OBD tool for the early cars is PDU (Portable Diagnostic Unit) and some dealers might still have an operating unit. The dealer I used to work at had the CD ROM drive fail and is no longer operational.
When the WDS was issued it was promised to have software for the OBD (early) cars and even included the Data Link Connectors for them. It never panned out so the PDU is still the only one.
Your 1992 has the OBD connector near the battery (Brown round connector) but the later cars had the connector in the boot under the battery or on the right near the tail lamp assy.

Motorcarman, Thanks Bob, I tried that (I think it is fuse #9) but no joy, still on. It doesn't appear to affect driveability so I just kinda' ignore it! I can take it to the dealer and they can reset it so I know it can be done, just not how. I've gotten to the point where I simply refuse to spend another $150 for someone to tell me that there is nothing wrong with the car.
