Default Parking brakes

I have a 1988 Jaguar XJ6 VIN 6. There is nothing related to a parking brake on the car. The rear brakes are disc. Is there a disc brake parking brake assembly, or will I have to locate a drum/shoe type parking brake assembly; and, where is a good place to find whatever I need?

I don't know about yours but every disc brake car I've got has a parking brake on the rear discs.

Are your parking brakes on a seperate caliper from the regular brakes, and if so, how do they mount?

Welcome to the forum Phil W,

The parking brake shoes are on the inside of the rear brake discs.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJ40 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. Below is a diagram of the rear brakes on the XJ40. Note the handbrake assembly is contained within the rear disc 'hat'.

Default Older model Jag parts

I have looked all over for a parking brake assembly (the parts that go on the rear hub) and can only find the assembly if I buy the whole hub assy. Any suggestions on where I can find just the brake assy?

Phil,

I moved your post from the thread on Jaguar OEMs to your existing thread about Parking Brakes. Please do not post in multiple threads or create multiple threads on the same issue. This is a violation of forum rules because it creates confustion when members reply to the same questions in different places.

Have you pulled the rear calipers and rotors off of your car to confirm the parking brake assemblies are actually missing?

What are the actual symptoms you are trying to resolve?

Cheers,

Don

Yes, I have pulled the rotor and caliper off, that is how I found out the assembly is missing. The symptom is I have no parking brake, so i cannot get my vehicle through inspection. I didn't mean to post on two threads. I am still figuring out how to use (poston) the forum. Thanks

To be clear, there are no brake shoes inside the hubs on your car?

Actually Lawrence, I seem to have the assembly on the passenger side (hug retaining screw is rusted in so I haven't been able to remove that one yet), but there are no shoes, dust shield or other parking brake parts on the driver side.

That refers to the XJ6 cars from 1968 to 1987 in North America. Your car is an XJ40 (XJ81), which is the replacement for the XJ6 Series 3.

Cars are very different and share nearly nothing in common except the name: XJ6.

The XJ-6 and 12 were developed and improved as they "grew up" and therefore the "Series". The chart below explains all the Series. The XJ-40 is considered "Series 4" unoficially.
