Default Puff of smoke

Hi ladies and gents.
I seem to have an issue. After cruising at 90kph or so for a sustained period my 89 soveriegn protests with a puff of smoke out of both pipes after slowing and speeding up again. Mainly on an incline or going around a corner.
The car is my daily ride and has good coolant levels and oil pressure.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

What color is that ? If it's white bad news . If you see blueish smoke when you start off the engine no big deal , it's from valve seals .

As far as I am concerned it could indicate a primitive failure of head gaskets

Australia is a pretty big place. Drive on the flat and avoid corners. That should see you right.

Might be something as little as steam staying in the exhaust on overrun and then being forced out the back when you go back on the gas.

Keep an eye on your fluids including brake fluid. I seem to remember reading that a drop of brake fluid can get sucked into the system and cause a puff of white smoke.

Can't remember which thread or forum section.

Perhaps one of our more tech inclined members can add.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be hitting the getting my mechanic friend to check them when I see him next.
The brake fluid suction has me thinking though. I do have an oil leak from a plug at the rear of the engine. Can the engine be sucking transmission fluid instead of break fluid?

I don't know, perhaps someone can chime in.

I did remember where I had seen the thread where brake fluid was mentioned however.

Things sometimes take a while to crawl back to the surface. Sorry bout that.

White Smoke.

Thanks translator and regent v12.
I read the link supplied and I think i will get the PCV checked first.... normally the simplest things that go not the main running gear. And when I bought the car I noticed it had only done 10,000 km in 2 years it wouldn't surprise me if some rubber is a little brittle.

Thanks a lot and I will post when I know what is wrong with it.

That used to be a common thing to diagnose.

When you coast, the engine is in a high vacuum state and may pull oil past the valve guides valve seals or piston rings. Then when you accelerate again, the oil gets burned off. The reason it is more prevalent uphill and around corners is that you probably work the engine harder in those situations.

The smoke in those situations is blueish and does not smell sweet. Coolant smells sweet.

If you watch both your coolant and oil levels, you will know which one you are consuming.

On an older car, as long as the plugs don't get oil fouled too often, it's just a badge of honour. That brings up another point. If you pull the plugs and they are oil fouled, you have your answer. Adding a liter of oil every few thousand is a lot cheaper than fixing the problem.
