Default Side Door Bump Guard Moulding Falling Off RESOLVED

The passenger side door guard moulding is falling off. The sticky tape seems to have lost its "stickiness". Has anyone had this problem before and know the tape that I should buy? Or should I just go to Home Depot and buy similar looking tape? The tape looks like a doubled sided sticky foam tape. Thanks!

Go to an auto parts store and buy a roll of their double sided trim tape.

Hi mdantonio95,

Roger's right. 3M makes a foam-based double-sided tape specifically for body moldings and trim. It's a little expensive, but it holds really well.

Clean the old tape residue from the molding and body with 3M Adhesive Remover if you have it (O'Reilly and other auto parts stores sell it). You can use a plastic scraper on the back of the molding, but on the painted side of car just use a soft cloth and lots of elbow grease. Goo Gone works too, but leaves an oily residue, so if you use it, follow-up with Denatured Alcohol or Prepping Solvent or Naptha to remove all traces of Goo Gone. Allow the surfaces to dry, then reattach your molding with the 3M tape and you should never have to worry about it again.

Cheers,

Don
