starting problem.. i need help
ok i got a 1996 xj6.. the car was running fine on saturday, then on sunday morning, leaving for work the doors wouldnt unlock, when i used the key to unlock it it just unlocked the driver door and the interior lights didnt come on. i turned the key and the gauge cluster lit up and everything appeared fine until i turned the key all the way and i got no noise. it didnt even try to start. tried jumping it just to make sure it wasnt the battery and still nothing. anyone have any ideas???

The first thing to check is the 'kill button'. That's the inertia switch, which is behind the drivers side kick panel. Push down on the button on top to reset........Roger.

Sounds exactly like his problem. I had exact symptoms, was to stupid to think about it and went 2 weeks with out a car and a 100 mile tow later to get home and have Haynes tell me.

dabid_hawk,
Unfortunately, Hayne's makes NO manual for the X300 series. WtF?
However, there is an active X300 community at the Jag-Lovers' site and an X300:1995-1997 XJ6 & XJ12 eBook.
CLick here to go to their X300_E_BOOK
Of course, we (jaguarforums.com) have a sticky on our X300 forum for you, too.

Good Hunting.

Passenger side there will be an inertia switch on the out right most wall in the foot well. Ensure it is not triggered and is functioning properly. I would put money that is your problem.
