Hi mickvic,
I think all the XJ40s used regular Dexron II/III in their steering racks, even if they were equipped with the Self-Leveling Suspension and used green mineral oil for that system and the brakes. Your owner's manual should tell you, if you have one, or you can dip a finger in the PS fluid reservoir to see what your steering has been running on.
Hopefully someone with a '91 car will replay and confirm or correct me.
Cheers,
Don

Either is fine.
If you still have the self leveling system then it has combined reservoir for both.
If you remove the SLS components then you can drain and refill with DEXRON for the PAS.
The 1988/89 and the later XJ40 W/O SLS used the DEXRON and a separate reservoir.
I removed the SLS from my 1992 and plugged/capped the unused fluid ports on my reservoir.
A single fluid supply to the PAS pump can be used in place of the 'Y' pipe and the SLS return can be CAPPED.
