Default Stereo Wiring for 1988-1992 XJ40/XJ6

I just replaced the aftermarket stereo in my 1988 Vanden Plas. The wiring was a nightmare because the new stereo had different color wires and they didn't match the wires in the car. I thought that it would be helpful to post the color chart for '88-'92 models that shows what each color wire corresponds to.

Thanks for posting that info, Ernest. It is also available in the Jaguar Electrical Guides, which can be downloaded from jagrepair.com. The XJ40 guides are mistakenly filed under the XJ6 XJ12 heading.

Cheers,

Don

Don, the electrical guide from jagrepair doesn’t give the wiring for the speakers. My chart details what speaker or common each color wire corresponds with.

Hmmm.... As an example, here's a snip from the 1990 Electrical Guide showing the wire colors and connector pins to all of the speakers:

All the connections for the antenna, power supply, etc. are likewise shown on the schematic. What am I missing?

You do have to consult the color code near the front of the guide for the less intuitive codes, such as K=Pink, N=Brown, LG=Light Green, etc.

Cheers,

Don

Ahhh! So you have to consult the color codes on page 8. That makes sense.

Thanks,
Ernest
