Thump on braking 94 XJ12
If it only happens on braking , then it's not likely the shocks although those bushings are a known "weak point" Maybe pull the front wheels and have a good wiggle on the calipers? Perhaps they are sticking on the slides?
Jerry, thanks. I'm being super lazy as my lift is tied up but I'll try to get the wheels off this week. I was wondering if it was a control arm moving or something along that line. It happens on hard backing and does make quite a bang, as if something shifted
Hi alabassi,
There are many possible suspects for your thump: control arm bushings, ball joints, subframe Vee mounts and rear pivot bushings, wheel bearings, shock bushings, brake caliper guide pins and bracket mounting bolts, transmission mount (that noise usually comes from under your seat), rusted body mounting points, etc. It could be a serious safety issue, so you're going to have to take a good look at everything.
Cheers,
Don
