Unknown plug in door '94 Daimler
So after long suffering with a terrible front passenger speaker, that rattled like a tin of nails at anything above a whisper, I took the plunge and replaced all four door speakers. I encountered a few surprises on the way though:
1) All four door speakers had completely perished surrounds, so it was surprising that it was mainly the front passenger that was so bad sounding.
2) Polk MM651s are a lovely little speaker, that although not completely straightforward to fit (mainly due to the restricted cut-out in the rear door metal, and the need to space them away from the speaker grilles due to their size) weren't too frustrating either.
3) My door cards had "1996" scrawled on every single one of them in blue chinagraph (or crayon), but were also clearly stamped with "11 Jan 1994" - any thoughts here?
4) And the point of this thread - I found a disconnected plug at the front edge of the drivers side door (RHD car), two-socket, red-white and red-black wires. Has anyone encountered this? The driver's door was the last door I did, so I guess there's a chance the same plug existed in the other doors, but was laying flat. It had nothing that looked obvious to connect to either, and certainly didn't attach to anything on the door card. Could it be something to do with the alarm system (never fitted to my car), or heated mirrors (not sure if mine are or are not, to be honest)? I'd love to know what it is, and trawling through the hundreds of circuit diagrams didn't help much at all!
Many thanks,
Dave

Thanks Jim, but I think that's a negative. Fitted and fully functional on this car... unless there is an additional light option that I'm not aware of that sits mid-way along the underside of the door? The lights with the red/white lens at the trailing edge on the underside of the door are working fine.
I have that plug loose too on my 94. I think it may be for the premium sound since its right there by the speaker. As for the "1996" I suggest its an inspector code. My 92 has "Penny" written in the same way, in the same place. Theres My 2 cents..
Thanks all for your advice. At this point it is probably a mirror heater connection. My car has memory mirrors, but not heated ones (I think!). While an additional audio connection is certainly possible, I'm not sure what that would be: additional door-mounted tweeters or woofers, or perhaps there were individual amplifiers available as an option.
Again, thanks all!
Again, thanks all!
