What is this part? breather heater? or else
1994 XJ6. The fuse indicates for breather heater. Try looking that up by name for a jag and you will only find hoses. So I yank the part with number 3900160967. Found one in Sweden and one that sold on ebay (as an exhaust sensor??) Anyway, google is not turning up much. Which is unbelievable.
So I believe I have a bad one, it smokes and then trips the fuse. Sure I can unplug it .But its there for a reason, right?

Hi skertz,
The page below from the 1993 AJ6 Engine Managment System Diagnostic Manual explains the function of the breather heater and includes a schematic for the electrical circuit to help diagnose issues:
Below are links to photos of the air intake plumbing on our '93, which is similar to your '94. The second album includes photos of our heater breather and the DC resistance I measured, 11.4 ohms, which may help you test your own breather:

Thanks Don
This is a excellent representation of what I have. I will test the resistance tonight. I suspect its bad or the relay as it will smoke which I presume is its getting too hot, possibly bad ground and the 10A fuse goes. Takes <2 seconds after you plug it in. With winter arriving soon, I should probably look at that one on ebay. Just ironic not being able to search for the part and stumble across part stores or more than just 1 on ebay and 1 in Sweden. Thanks again Don.

Orignal part number helpful
Thanks for the original part number from Jag. While seeing other sites where people have them or don't or just the plug. http://www.xj40.com/viewtopic.php?f=...2327f28acf1a11 I have opted to leave mine unplugged for now and not blow fuses or have the warning light on...and use the money on more pressing needs. Like the front passenger door handle. I have already replaced both fronts in past and its that time again to replace the passenger again. Then its onward to the glitch with the tail lights and side lights. Sometimes they works and sometimes they don't. Nice to have the rear fog lights, police officer says it suffices. LOL
