Question What are two red lights (lenses) in center top of dashboard?

My Xj12 has two small red lens lights in the center top of the dashboard, mounted on a small panel in the middle of the window defrost/defog vents.

One of the red lights blinks when the doors are closed and locked.

The other lens up to this point doesn't do anything, so I'm not sure it is even a light at all, or if perhaps it is a sensor of some type.

I don't currently have the security system fobs for the car, so not sure if either of these lenses lights/blinks if I were arming the car with a fob.

But just curious what they both do or are?

.

I've only ever noticed one of those two red lights flashing on my car, but I haven't really paid attention to see if I could make the 2nd one flash or light up. The Security System handbook that came the car only refers to "the red warning light" on the fascia, as opposed to "lights".

My car came without any fobs and I bought 2 of the RF fobs from someone parting out a 1994 XJ12. I was able to program them and use them with my car. Per the handbook, the XJ6/XJ12 came with either IR or RF remote fobs, while the XJS came only with the RF system. If you have a small white plastic dome on the roof console, I understand that indicates the IR version, which may be harder to pair to fobs that didn't come with the car.

Default Dashboard (non-control) lights/sensors.

Pretty sure the flashing light is to denote that the vehicle security system is engaged.

The other I believe is the sensor for the automatic driving lights. There is also a chance that it is the sensor housing for automatic wipers if you have the rain sensing wiper option

I have an 1996 XJ12, last year of the car and they did not have automatic headlamps or wipers by then. My car has one "dome" on the dash vent center panel.

One dome is for the alarm system. This blinks when armed and is located on the top of the dash for high visibility as a theft deterrant.

The second is the sun-load sensor for the automatic climate control system. It measures the sun-load on the car and will adjust the delivery temperature a few degrees because the cooling demand is higher.

As stated above, the second red device is a solar sensor for the automatic climate control.

And of course, as I look around for other things, I find the answer to this question... confirming the answers already given
