XJ40 81 front door speakers
My car came with no radio. After buying the wrong one I now have the correct one as there are at least two variants. Car is battery in boot XJ81. The front door speakers don't work but the tweeters near the windscreen vents do work.
Are there amplifiers in the doors or is there a high/low unit which splits the treble and the bass for the tweeters and front door speakers?
Or maybe the radio I bought is faulty?
Any thoughts welcomed.
Thanks
Kind regards
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
On our '93 6-cylinder, the door speakers and dash tweeters get the same signal, but the tweeters have small electrolytic capacitors in series to roll off the low frequencies. The speaker wires connect at splice blocks mounted on the left and right blower motor housings, so you might check to be sure everything is connected at those points as well as at the radio/head unit and the speakers themselves.
If you don't have the Electrical Guide, you can download it here:

Thanks. Finally got around to investigating. The previous owner had fitted a more modern radio but it had been removed. There was no evidence of additional speakers but inside the doors there was a load of spaghetti wiring not connected to anything! Speakers were actually disconnected. Reconnected and works now!
