Default XJ81 Indicator sounder & HT coil plug

I have just acquired a new toy! XJ12.
The indicator sound doesn't work nor the warning when you leave the side/park lights and open the door.
Suspect there is a little module in the dash somewhere?
I sold my last XJ40 10 years ago so I am a bit rusty on the technicalities!
Also have been trying to identify & find the plug that plugs into the HT coil as one is faulty and one bank keeps cutting out. I have fixed it for now but it needs a new one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Charles

Hi Charles,

I'm not sure I understand the issue with the ignition coil - has the connector plug on the wiring harness to the coil or ignition amplifier failed? If you can post a photo perhaps we may be able to help you identify it.

Regarding the audible warning and indicator sounds, there is a small speaker inside the steering column cowl behind the steering wheel. On our '88, when we lost the audible warnings and indicator sounds it was due to failure of that small speaker. I was able to source one of similar size from Radio Shack. I think it was about 2 or 2-1/2 inches in diameter. The impedance was fairly high (50 ohms?), and I couldn't find one of the same impedance, so I got the highest impedance RS offered, which was 16 ohms, I think. The result was that the volume was lower, which personally I didn't mind. I don't know if any of the photos in the albums at the links below show the speaker, but they do show how to remove the steering column cowl and what's inside.

Thanks for the info on the speaker, I will investigate further.
The HT coil problem is the connector on the loom which is a socket not a plug, apologies my first post was misleading. I have bent one of the pins on the coil over so it contacts when the socket is plugged in but this is a short term fix.

Hi Charles,

That connector is a type used on Ford vehicles and you may find it in this catalog:

http://www.motorcraft.com/servlet/Bl...lob&blobkey=id

I can't recall which company manufactures that style connector, but the Jaguar connector OEMs and brands include Econoseal, AMP, Amphenol, Augat, Deutsch Group SAS, TE Connectivity, Lucar, Modu, Molex, Motorcraft, Multi-Lok and Tyco International. If you don't find the connector in the Ford catalog, try searching the online catalogs of the above OEMs.

BTW, is the car in question your 1991 XJ81 or your 1994 XJ12?

Cheers,

Don
