Default 1971 Series 1 door card removal

I am having some difficulties removing my series 1 door cards, rear in particular, in an effort to get the mahogany trims removed. I have searched the Forum and only found later Series advice. Can anyone shine a light on the sequence/fasteners to help me? The door cards themselves seem to be toast.

i don't own your era of xj6 but i thought i'd give you my 2 cents on the chance something might spark a solution for you. don't want to insult your abilities but just to be thorough the obvious fasteners would be along the outer sides and bottom. there should also be hidden screws on the bottom of the arm rest. maybe the top of the armrest slides off to reveal another screw. also screws are hidden behind chrome finishers like on the top of the door handle. the door latch might also have a hidden screw behind a cap. if all else fails a gentle tugging at the card once all other known fasteners are removed might help you narrow down the hidden screw fasteners.

also you mentioned the door card material is water damaged. i suffered the same condition. i ordered waterproof door card material from miami corporation in cincinnatti 800.543.0448.
it was about $35 delivered for 2 panels, enough to make two door cards. i used the old one as the pattern. it cut easily with a razor knife (new blade).

hope this helps.

Thank you Retroren, yes the obvious panel fasteners were the easy part, but the hidden fasteners near the arm rest/handle are the hangup.

At risk of stating what you already know. - You do not need to remove the door cards to remove the timber trim. The front door caps are screwed to the top trim piece and frame, just unscrew and lift. The rear timbers are unscrewed and then must be lifted gently at the front and swung out an inch to clear the door frame. Then push forward an inch to release the rear clip and lift off.

The Mekon, That was priceless!!! By far the easiest thing i have done all day. I feel like i am pretty crafty but that one had me stumped. I will tackle the door card/handle tomorrow but will be sanding down parts tonight! Thank you so much. This Forum has and always will be the best.
