Has any one replaced the Jag door lock thermal breaker with a circuit breaker.. Is so what amp breaker did you use. Thermal breakers are getting scarce. Just got a used one from Welsh. tests ok. I just want a plan "B".

I have decided to replace mine with a slow-blow fuse when I get in the mood to fix it.
That might be some time, cuz I'm not even sure where the thing is.

It's up on the left side of the column, and not much fun to get at it. Spade legs on a slow blow, might be just right. I'll match up. & report back.

I was skulking over in Another Jag forum, and one of their Gurus posted the part number of a replacement thermal breaker he says, from NAPA!
BK 7823118
30A blade circuit breaker for windows and locks.
I plan to pick up a couple of these, cuz even if they require modification they'll be better than what I have now.

LnrB,
Wow & thanks. I paid $10 & UPS shipping for used. I'm grabbing the dogs & rushing down to our favorite NAPA to pick one up. Might have to tie wrap it in place.

Hi Elinor,
Is this located with the window switches, or somewhere else. Also, where do I find the door lock one? I'd love to pickup a few too, but It appears Canadian NAPA stores don't recognize the number up here. Do they plug into a holder, in which case the terminal spacing will be critical, or do they just spade connect into the harness? If the latter, I suppose I could just source any 30 A auto-reset version with spade terminals. Ian

Hi, Ian,
I don't know if it just plugs right in or not as I haven't taken my own apart yet. Clyde seems to have already done that though.

The ROM says both Series 2 breakers are located just above the Left fuse panel. I have no idea where Series 3 puts them but I think they're in a different location. Others who drive Series 3 will be able to tell you more accurately.

I had thought of some 30A Slo-Blow fuses, even bought a selection I thought might work, but when I found the post about a metal can breaker, well, that's what I want. As Clyde mentions, might take zip-ties to keep in in place, but I'm OK with that.

If you can't find them locally, I'll bet you can find what you want by part number Online! Maybe even from Amazon as they seem to have just about everything else in the world one could possibly want.

Ok, I've lost the used one I bought, momentarily. The napa 30Amp is smaller in size, spades are shorter, but spacing appears to be the same per memory. More as search continues.

I picked up one from the local NAPA store.
Cost me a hair over $5.

It's quite a lot smaller than I thought it would be.

Also, requires power be cut before healing itself. But turning off the key is said to do that.

As Central Locking in Series 2 is 'hot' and operable at all times, key on or not, if I manage to trip this one I'll have to pull the ground strap to reset it. But it would doubtless work very well as a window circuit breaker since that circuit is key controlled.
