1972 XJ6, Fuel Pumps and Points
HI;
I'm trying to breath life back into a 1972 XJ6 I recently picked up.
The fule pumps are stuck, I'm thinking new as opposed to re-build.
There seems to be a choice of SU pump for a points system and an electronic dist. system.
Why would there be a different pump if I have converted the points to Electronic?
Is there an advantage to get rid of the Points system I have now?
If so, where do I get a conversion kit to go from Points to Electronic Dist?
Thanks
Dave

You may not have to get a new fuel pump at all. Used to be that the points got stuck on a car that sat awhile and that one could open the case and clean the points with emery paper.
I have done that on early Jags and MGs and never had to buy a pump. Another advantage of point driven fuel pumps is that one can hear the points making thru the radio if you are not tuned to a strong station. It's a reassuring feeling.
