I recently purchased an’83 Jaguar XJ 6 and after fixing a few other parts it became apparent that the fuel pump was not working. I popped the trunk and also noticed this part. I am not extremely savvy to the Jaguars’ parts and have no clue what this device is (pictured below). But it has had the main wire clipped and all accessory connections disconnected from the relay (green). Can someone tell me what this is and how to connect the wires back to the relay?
Wow, somebody has really been playing around with that wiring ! Was it Charlie Allthumbs ? The first photo shows the electric aerial motor, but there seems to be no push-pull cable connecting it to the actual aerial which is fixed into the rear wing. A bit of a botch-up to be sure ! So how do you receive radio signals ?
I'm not sure what the relay is, it may be for the radio aerial motor.

If you buy an aftermarket electric aerial it comes ready to fit - with a bit of adaptation. Just need to find the correct wires including from the radio.
the green relay raises or lowers the antenna in different ways:
with the original 1983 radio, also fitted until 1984 models, if a cassette tape was inserted into the cassette, it would lower the antenna. If the cassette was ejected, but the radio was still ON, it would raise the antenna. Very smart.
with any other radio, it simply raises the antenna when the radio is turned ON, or causes a 5 second delay in lowering the antenna when the radio is turned OFF. If the radio has cassette or CD, and either is ejected, it does nothing, the antenna stays up until the radio is turned OFF.
WIRING: there is or was, no special wiring from the radio to the green relay. At the radio, the original WHITE wire is for power from radio to antenna, that's it. 1 wire.
In modern radios, the antenna power wire is BLUE.
At the antenna relay:
purple wire to relay connector 1
black wire to relay connector 2
white with pink wire to relay connector 3
blue with white wire to relay connector 4
blue with red wire to relay connector 5 at the center.
