Default 1984 XJ6

Hello!
I just bought a 1984 XJ6 and I love it.
I´m doing some restoration and I have a few questions.
What is the box in the back seats before the rear windshield?
Where can I get floor mats and carpeting that is or looks original?
What type of wood is in the car?
Thanks!!

Hello, Jose,
Congratulations on your 'new' Xj6! Prettiest cars on the road today!
My car doesn't have one, but perhaps that box houses the third tail light? Of maybe a rear speaker for the sound system?

I can't tell you where to find carpets but someone will be along shortly who can I'm sure.

Wood on the dash is usually Walnut. Sometimes owners refinish their wood and sometimes replace it with a different material.

When you get a minute, please stop by the New Members Area and post an introduction. It's sort of required:

Jose:

Welcome. The cars can be challenging, yet a lot of fun.

As to mats and carpeting. Are yours missing or merely in poor condition?

Two ideas, one may not apply.

1. Visit a local upholstery shop[ and see what they might offer.

2, David Boger at everydayxj posts here regularly. He has amassed a selection of NOS and good used parts. Many Jaguars have been dissected there. The good parts to keep others on the road. I think he does ship out of the USA.

3. If yours still exist, scrubbing and possibly dying and binding edges
might make them presentable.

We all like pictures!!!

Mexico! World Upholstery.com en California tiene de todo. A que caja te refieres? Tomale un retrato para ver la ''caja''. El mio es un '84 tambien, color chocolata. Fueron los Mayas o los Aztecas quienes inventaron el chocolate?

ohh! I think the ''box'' he is asking about may be the one at the center of the rear parcel shelf behind the rear seat's Back. That is a ventilation shaft, similar idea as the Egyptian pyramids, to vent the inside air through the 8 vent openings located at the rear windshield Cowl, only visible when you open the trunk lid.

The Aztec did not invent choclate. Only found the bean had exquisite
flavors that were used in several diches.

Chile and choclate together sounds awful, but in fact, it is delicious!!

I hear tell Hershey went south from Hershey, PA !!!! Back home...

Carl,
When Hernan Cortés arrived in Mexico in 1519, the Aztec emperor Moctezuma believed he was their returning god, "Quetzalcoatl", and offered him the drink of the gods: hot chocolate, which they called "chocolata".

Yum, getting cold hereabouts. Sounds like a great idea. Cinamon stick
or whipped cream or "straight"!!!

The centre 'box' is, indeed, the internal air ventilation exit to vents as described earlier.

As for carpets, you are lucky, in that the Series 3 cars were probably the last Jaguars to be trimmed in carpet "off the roll", so no pesky mouldings to worry about. There are a number of trim suppliers that can provide carpet in the colour you need. Here's one: -

Carpets - Series III - SC Parts Group Ltd

Not cheap !
