Default 74 xj6 Radiator HELP please!

Finally got all the coolant hoses replaced, as well as the heater control valve.... and of course after the system gets up to pressure the radiator springs a leak! I pulled it out and it's beyond recoring, I need a new one. I have now found out that nobody makes them anymore with the exception of one company who wants 700 plus shipping OUCH! I was wondering if anyone knew of anything comparable that will fit... I don't mind doing a little fabricating on the mounting side of things.

Any Help Appreciated,
Tony

Tony,

Obviously things up there are very different to down here.

No radiator is beyond re-coring. Cleaning and refurbishing, maybe, but not re-coring.

Recoring Copper/Brass radiators is still a core business here for any radiator specialst.

I recently had one done for a '48 Rover, and NO, there is no "off the shelf" core for it, so a core was cut from a stock "slab", the end plates tinned into place, and the tanks resoldered. OK, it cost him $600, but the Rover will not run without it, so the $ means little.

Try XK Unlimited in San Louis Obispo, they have some real hard to find stuff that has helped me a lot over the years.

Default good used?

You may find a good used one. Check this one out. There is some green fluid spilling out so most likely is was serviceable and make have been preserved to some degree while it was in storage.

I agree with Grant.

Take it to a radiator shop and let 'em have a look.

OTOH, a decent used radiator that needs only a good professional cleaning is also worth looking for. I wonder if a Ser III radiator would fit? I'm betting it would, and would be easier to find.

FWIW, some Ser III guys are using aluminum radiators from late-90s/early 2000s Mustangs. Apparently it's an easy fit. I can try to find the details.

Cheers

"There ya go"

$125 for this radiator + $100 for cleaning/repair at the local radiator shop = $225

Much easier to swallow than $700 !
