Default 84 XJ6 Climate Control Question

Yesterday took the car out after the long winter nap. Climate control was acting in a way I just don't remember is normal or not. It's still freezing here in the mornings. So I wanted heat. Climate setting is in "Auto" but fan never kicked on HIGH in that setting even though the controls dial was set to 85. Turning fan to HIGH resulted in expected result. Low I seem to remember was always almost imperceptible. SO question is whether the Auto feature will cause fans to hit HIGH when HEATING. I know it does/did it when COOLING. Just don't remember whether it does that when the temp needs to be Heating. The temp adjustment is working fine. So when fans are on high the temperature modulates correctly.

Nope. In heating mode with the dial set to "auto" the system will not command #4 fan speed

When set to "auto" the system will command #4 fan speed only in cooling mode.

From memory:

Defrost: #4 fan speed only
Cooling: #2,3,4 fan speeds
Heating: #2, 3 fan speeds
Blend : #1,2 fan speeds

Cheers
DD

^ ^^

Operating as designed perhaps but I'm not sure I'd consider it perfect when it's -20 C.

engine coolant must be fully hot for heating to be effective and fill the cabin with hot air.

In my 1984 I added seat heaters to the front seats for faster heating.
