Default '87 xj6 difficult running after stored

I have a '87 XJ6 that was sitting for 6 month, had a relative pull it out of storage to get it running. I usually put fuel stabilizer in before I store it for winter, but this did not happen this time. It ran with the gas in it but rough so my cousin added seafoam and topped it off with fresh gas which improved the idle a lot. After a day it start to idle very rough and is difficult to keep running. Looking for ideas. Could fuel cleaner have added to a clogged filter? Have on on the way just not installed yet. Concerned the injectors became partial clogged. Very difficult to start now, sputters and doesn't want to rev. If I manage to get the revs up it runs ok. Sorry for being long winded.

LOTS of 'could be' possibilities and stepping off points.

Six months storage isn't all that long but if the conditions were just right....that is, just wrong.....some fuel degradation and/or tank rust might have taken place. Stale fuel usually has a foul odor and the exhaust will be foul smelling as well; often a turpentine-like odor.

Personally I'd begin by removing the fuel filter and emptying the contents into a clear jar. What you see (and smell) will dictate your next steps. And if you see lots of brown gunk, well, you've probably got some tank rust.

Cheers

Pulled the filter and replaced. since I posted. Between the smell and brownish color decided fed to drain the tanks and flush them. Refilled with new gas. Now I can get it running but need to give it a lot of gas otherwise at idle it stumbles and eventually dies.

"Possible" clogged injectors.

First, an easy check: is the duct between the Air Flow Meter and the throttle body leak-free and secure?

Assuming clogged injectors are the problem....Try using a spray nozzle in the sea foam can. Mist it into the air intake. It directly runs into air flow & will help clean up the injectors. You may need to feather the throttle keep it running as you do this.
