Default 87 xj6 rims

so I'm new here and first time posting so i hope I'm doing this correctly. i purchased a 87 xj6 vander plas and want to up grade the rims with larger ones but don't know if it will be to big. the rims i like come in 20s and 19s and the rim shop said the 20s would be fine but i don't want to look like I'm driving in a monster truck with the 20s. does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? would the 19s be to large also with a low profile tires?

This site doesnt cover a lot of the series I,II,III wich you own. You may find alot more info on Jaglovers.org. You can start with model locator, and go from there.
Another great site, but tailored towards older models.

garciapitbull,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the Series I, II & III XJ6. Your 1987 XJ6 Vanden Plas is a Series III. You will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars in this forum, as well as at jag-lovers.org as Mark mentioned.

Cheers,

Don

Fixed!!! I wondered.

I've seen XJ's on 20's. To me, the proportions are just not right.
And, with a lot of metal and little rubber on the wheels, the ride
must be harsh.

Those super low profiles don't take to pot holes !!!! Popped tires,
cracked wheels....

my first car, way back had 30's!!!! Low profile tires as well!!!

Progress was down to 16's with a higher profile. No wood, now steel and more rubber.

But, to each, his own!!!

Default The evolution of the wheel

At one time, General tire company came up with Balloon tires.
Nice wide artillery wheels and much more rubber. Some fenders had to be
"modified" to house them. The epitome of 'skins" of the era.
