Default Adapting a T5 manual trans to the XJ block

When it's too cold outside and Youtube calls, its dangerous in what you find. This guy shows how to make up adapter plates to mate the XJ block to a T5 manual tranny. It's long, but very interesting. He has all kinds of neat tricks I've never seen before. Now, if only I had his workshop!

have seen prior pictures of his build f a boat tail speedster. rremarkable young man, for sure.

I think that is "daddy's shop" !!!!!

Check out Johnathan Winnans on You tube. Adopts the t5 to a Buick straight 8 and a Flat head Cadillac V8. A more direct path.

On J-l, David Dwomby describes the T5 in his SIII. also a simpler path.

The bell housig in the young man's adaptation is from a big Ford truck I had one around here for a spell. I think it left by mistake in a clean up!!!!! Drats...

I was very close to T-5 mod to replace Auto box on my XKE 1.5, when lost garage and had to sell car.

Used SBC 153 tooth flywheel (you can get racing billet FWs from17-26 lbs.): Added 5 holes to center crank flange attach holes, reamed all holes to Jaguar diameter including the 2 holes for the alignment dowels. Machine off SBC ring gear and install Jaguar ring gear with interference fit. ID of SBC ring gear is .014 more than Jag ring gear, so machine SBC flywheel diameter down about .011". Many Chevy clutches kits to choose from stock and racing.

Used Jaguar Manual transmission Bell Housing from a sedan, with one machined adaptor between transmission and bell housing.

Custom drive shaft
Hydraulic throw-out bearing (many options), pilot bearing in crankshaft flange is GM/Jaguar.

Fun project and would have made a nice improvement to 3 speed automatic performance.

Oh David! I would love to do that work, but I just loved his video. I'm very pleased with my BW 66. I seem to just waft⁶ along, as what one should do in a Jaguar xj6.

Use John'scars quarter breed kit and swap in a 700R. Shifts to OD!!!!

Teh 4l60E in my car is a cousin of the 700. Od is "wafrier"...
2.88 x .70 Od and trhe RPM's diminish....

Yes Carl, that is what I worked out is best for my XJ6 S3 " John's 700R" .... Unfortunately the PO, just did major work on transmission & Steering Rack (the bills are what lead her to sell) so the BW66 transmission will probably outlast me. I paid for the transmission work and got the whole car.
(humorous note for people who fall in love with the beauty of the XJ6... PO took repair shop to small claims court over the pre buy inspection not finding all the mystery problems with a neglected Jag.)
Rgds

I get it. It don't need fixin!!!!

Wow, Sure hope the PO lost. Expecting a basic inspection to find all the faults in an older car of any specie is nonsense...
